Gattis, Steele, Guidry, Dawson

The offensive woes in the GT game are on Cam. We had receivers open all game long.
Although I didn't like the 4th and short play call, we still had a guy open

The defensive side of the ball absolutely has to have some changes, primarily on the personnel there, and I'm talking about coaches. The players have some responsibilities, no doubt, but the scheme we are running simply does not work.

When Dabo was on the trajectory that we're on back in 2012 he 'fired' Kevin Steele, although the stories were that he resigned. We cannot lose momentum with this program by accepting the performance of the coaches on the defensive side of the ball. Mario has to make some tough decisions. Now I don't know if there's a Brent Venables out there (or if he's about to be available), but we need change. I do not care if we just gave Guidry a 3 yr extension, you CANT, just 100% CANNOT, have the kind of year he's had with the talent we have on our roster. Especially at LB and DL.

Complaining about Dawson in this way is something. A great deal of perspective has been lost.

I thought it was all about the Jimmy's & Joe's?

Isn't that what yall always would say to me when we would have the debates about Coaches & Schemes?

Interesting how that works.

But in any event, it's a little funny to see the darling of the fanbase last year now taking the most heat. I distinctly remember last year & all offseason people were singing the praises of Guidry & saying Dawson needed to be fired. And now things have flipped 180⁰.

Maybe they're both good Coordinators that are working with what they have?

I mean, wasn't our Defense supposed to be better without Kam Kinchens?

Honestly, this is where I am.

We were praying LSU wouldn't steal Guidry. Now he's the village idiot.

Just keep stacking talent.

Run game was working all game with Martinez and on 2 out of the 4 4th downs where we could run we don’t give him the ball. That was crazy
Said that exact same thing to myself watching the game. The 4th down on the Cam rollout that ended with the incomplete pass to Fletcher, we had run it 7 consecutive plays with Martinez.
Martinez run for 14
Martinez run for 8
Martinez run for 1
Martinez for for 4
Martinez run for 0
Martinez run for 7
Martinez run for 2

I don't mind the aggressiveness in going for it on those 4th downs, but the play calling on those 4th downs had something left to be desired.

Usually the 4th down calls have been good. This game was bad.

He's not perfect. In fact, some of his play calls are head scratchers. He needs to lose those WR screens he likes so much.

Dawson talked about self scouting and identifying tendencies they could change up during the last bye week. I hope he takes the time to do it again this week.

Put together a few new wrinkles for the next two games. Miami is going to get the best shot of both Wake and Syracuse and it would be nice to get off to a fast start and build a cushion early.

I am going to think positively with regard to the defense and hope that a little rest will help them refocus to finish strong.

That thread is amazing.

From savior to village idiot.

Again, maybe Guidry is terrible and last year was a fluke.

Or maybe we’re dealing with compounding factors that are causing problems.

Whether or not Guidry gets replaced, the talent needs to be upgraded.

We currently only have one “dude” in the secondary rotation, and he’s a true freshman that wasn’t even here for the spring.

Kiko is looking like the low/mid 3-star he was.

Bissainthe is solid, but not spectacular.

Bain and Barron are good, but they haven’t been getting a ton of ops to rush the passer because the ball has been coming out quick.

Barrow is a beast, but it’s a JAG corps when he goes out of the game.

We were getting killed by the jet sweep, but we were also getting killed on QB powers. The edges AND the middle were soft. King had 20 rushes for nearly 100 yards.

The defensive talent just isn’t that good right now. In the words of Mark Richt: “Where are the dudes?”

That’s on Mario for not signing more impactful defensive players in 2023. I’ll give him a pass for the transition class.

I like ‘24 on paper, but we need a good hit rate on that class.

And we need at least one or two guys from the ‘25 class that are plug-and-play rotational guys like Bain and OJ were.

That I understand but I'm unfamiliar with the perfect OC where every play works.

I hated that 4th down play action call to Mark Fletcher. But ultimately having the best offense in the sport isn't even a goal anyone had. We've outperformed our wildest dreams.

We need to rewatch some Dan Enos and Gattis tape and realize how much closer we looked to 2024 FSU than 2024 Ole Miss very recently.

Was Steele really a bad coach?
Nah. He’s an older dude that’s already out of the game two years after Miami and wasn’t really longed for here either. He had a weird career path. Solid not great dc.

That staff at the time had too many older coaches with big names and different perspectives that didn’t really bring the juice because they’re already established.

He’s been both savior and village idiot at different points of his career.

Had good defenses in the SEC, but then couldn’t stop the counter at Miami in that embarrassing FSU game.
Yeah he had a really weird career where he looks all world on some sec teams or stupid like he did at Clemson.

No one to blame but Guidry he hasn’t adjusted at all this season
But he made significant adjustments last season as injuries piled up and his defense kept the team in most games (Louisville...ouch).

Why is this season proof he can't coach anymore?

Why hasn't anyone called for JT's resignation? His edge players (except Barron the first four games) have been nothing short of dog water this year - zero edge pressure, zero ability to set the edge, zero ability to defeat blocks.

Does Nicholson get any blame for how inconsistent the LB play has been? Or that Nicholson keeps trotting Alderman out there who has been beyond atrocious. He gets manhandled by anyone with a pulse.

Jackson gets a pass because he's dealing with Addae's terrible recruiting (2 years of trash piled up on itself).
