Gattis hasn't been good, but...

Brother...hear me out.

This is the third time in four years that a legit nobody at WR transfers here and is almost immediately our best WR. KJ Osborn was a WR2 at a MAC School. Rambo was WR3 at OU and probably lower on the depth chart when the next season starts up. Now we got a real nobody show up and be the only guy that can make a play.

Wild.

The way we play offense makes it so our execution has to be perfect. And when it’s not our horses aren’t good enough to bail the coaches out. College football isn’t this hard. Our coaches methods make it hard. Go and hire kittley from Texas tech and watch how we take off

on the safety busting the coverage thats on them freelancing imo.

when the MTSU QB sees the D and audibles into a favorable play call thats on the staff imo.
In that case, not enough discipline has been instilled or emphasized by the coaches. Remember who’s the coach and who’s the receiver of the coaching in this equation.

I read we ran inside zone (with the 2 smaller backs) on first down six times and gained maybe 10 yards...Total.

Redzone - horrific, tailoring an O to the Qbs (including Jake) and what they do well - awful. Feel for playcalling/ flow - misrable.

He has been an abysmal hire. Matter of time before hes fired...At this point I would actually like to see what Ponce can do.

Oregon scored 40+ 7 times in the last 3 years with Mario (35 games).

They have scored 40+ 6 times in 7 games this year now that he is gone.

Stop this nonsense. Mario is an old school Neanderthal. Any offensive recruit that plays for him is being hoodwinked.

I’m just over it.

Kenny Dillingham has oscillated between dolt and genius the past few years.

Just get good players.

We beat them how badly last year with mostly the same players? It's ALL coaching. Coaches instill discipline, period. Mario talks a tough game, but dude can't coach. 8 million a year, yeah, it's on coaches to earn their money and get the most out of their players.

Nope. We had a different QB, RB, OL, WR’s, TE’s, etc.

Not at all the same team.

I’m confused at this point. OP is right about lack of talent. But the response that we still have better talent than Duke, MTSU, Western Kentucky, USB is very compelling. What is the real problem? Is it coaching? Is it effort? What?

coach gotta put you in a “position to win” but you cant line up on 3rd and 1 and convert on a team that you are so called more talented then ? That’s why I’m not playing the sole blame on Mario cause it ain’t his fault that you can’t lineup and beat the 3 star across from you for a yard . A dang Ol yard. Shouldnt have to finesse a dam yard !!

But it is his fault for schemes and formations and plays that require you to do that when we’ve seen that we can’t…

Because that was the call against the last 4 head coaches, etc… so Mario gets no pass.

Not a one word answer. Lack of overall player effort outside of practice to get better (lifting, film work, passing drills with WR's) is one part. NOT having quality depth on OL is a HUGE problem. Duke had the better OL ON the field yesterday for sure. The injuries have been a major issue. So talent is a major issue, not making the effort is another, and then we have the Gattis offensive scheme ... which has certainly not been tailored to the skill sets of the current roster. So you have a very bad combination ... some better players out with injuries, the kids that ARE playing aren't that good, and they are trying to execute an offensive scheme that doesn't fit what THEY CAN do ... so that part is on coaching ... in my opinion.

Explain how the coaches turned it over 10 times today … 8 actual turnovers and 2 turned over on downs.

Both coaches and players stink

The 2 turnovers on downs were:
- not taking the 3 points and taking the air out of the stadium
- not punting, giving Duke a short field and the ensuing score sealed the loss

the talent on O is underwhelming.

We can't line up and run for half a yard against DUKE or MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE, and now our paper-thin OL is banged up.

Our best RB is a 190-lb power back with average speed.

Teams can sit in cover 2 shells with zero fear of our run game.

As for WR, Colbie Young is already our best player and he got here 5 minutes ago. Restrepo was WR1, and he's hurt.

Nobody has come close to replacing Rambo's production.

There is A LOT wrong on offense right now.
Unfortunately, the other teams are practically reading Gattis’ plays before he calls them. That will lead to lower production when you run or pass the ball.

Agreed and we are 7 games and a bye week in. The coaches get paid to be better than this.

This the one and why I don't Blame Gattis as much as I do Mario. Too many people think that because Mario's never been a offensive coordinator he just sits back and keeps his hands completely out of it when it comes to his offenses. It just not true and that goes for all head coaches not just Mario.

Get all the way the **** out of here with this bull**** OP. How’s the talent at Duke? They have first round QB who regressed worse than pookie from new jack when they put him in the crack room?

Bruh 🤣🤣

You’re right, the kids are great and Saban would have them 6-0

God forbid it’s both, but noooo “WE KiLlEd ThEM LaST YeARzzzz”

This Duke loss, to a team we killed last year, and also has a first year head coach, pretty much shuts off most of the Mario da gawd excuses…

It’s a mess. He’s making it worse.

I can’t excuse Gattis or his hiring, but I’ve heard his contract pulling him from Mi makes him much less fireable than we would like.
