GaTech vs Clemson

He did the same thing with Lawrence and Kelly Bryant. Dabo gave Bryant some rope and that lasted a few games.

But this time the freshman only led a garbage-time TD drive.

Yeah a lot of UM fans are wowed by Clemsons backup QB despite the fact that he came into the game when Clemson was already up more than 3 TDs and GTs defense had packed it up. There is no way anyone could realistically make the determination of whether he is the goods or not from garbage time football. I remember a sizeable contingent here saying that DJ Ukelele was every bit as good as Sunshine, and Clemson wouldn't notice a drop off. I said at the time that we should actually watch him play in live games instead of just looking at the 247 rating. The same advice applies to Clemsons backup QB.

So was BCU and we barely got pressure. You are a super fan if you can’t see the difference in athletes on their team verse what Miami currently has.
Yeah they do, but I ain't using them as any type of barometer to judge anything. And we did get pressure. We gave up contain to a running QB who Kevin Steele said there was no film on other than high school from 2019. I'm not making any excuses for the defense breaking down against BCC, I'm just not taking that as emblematic. We could run the ball and stopped them from running it even with the QB breaking off runs on broken plays.

Clemson has good athletes, probably more than we do overall, we still have athletes. They had more than NC State and Pittsburgh, lost both games, we won both games. Ain't the be all end all u man make it out to be. Everything we do is negative and everything the opponent do is positive.

Just woke up and saw the score. Must have fallen asleep sometime in the 2nd quarter--boring-*** game.

Quick observation from that game last night. DJ doesn't have it mentally, he processes slow and can be confused by disguised coverage regularly. His physical tools are there and when he's on time and using proper mechanics he's good and throws a good ball. Problem with all that is their OL is not good, 78 is very slow footed and got beat a bunch by just speed and he "opened the gate" immediately at the snap a bunch. If he stays at that spot all year he's going to get the QB leveled. Clemson's OL is not good enough for them to be an elite title contender.

I think eventually it will be Cade that takes over, probably in the NC State game. I get it, people only saw one drive, thing is when you watch the specific nuance of those plays he was on time and on target on pretty much all his throws. He gives the receivers a chance to make the plays instead of the inconsistency DJ shows. He's also pretty athletic and moves well throwing on the run. Their run game while still good, lacks that take over type player like they had with Etienne, someone they can just get the ball to in space and he does his thing. Shipley is solid though.

All in all the talent is still there for Clemson, but they are very susceptible to losses this year if they can't get better QB play. Defenses are going to adjust to them and make DJ's arm have to beat them.

Watched "The Huddle" last night after the game. Eric McClain was already wanting Klubnik as the starter. He doesn't think Clemson can win a natty with DJ U and questioned whether Clemson could beat Miami with DJ.

I think Klubnik will be the starter when we play them in November, but McClain and Clemson fans should pump the brakes.

Klubnik came in for mop up duty against a tired and defeated GT team. GT was getting pressure on DJ U all night. The same would have happened to Klubnik. Who knows what the results would have been.

Moving forward, I think Klubnik gets scheduled reps and will overtake DJ when/if DJ struggles.

I think Klubnik will make their offense better, but the key is the Clemson offensive line. It's just average at best. They have a freshman starting at RT. They couldn't run the ball against GT until they went up tempo and wore down the GT defense that doesn't have depth. That won't work against better teams.

Better teams are going to make Clemson 1-demensional forcing them to throw a lot more. They won't be able to push the ball down the field with all the QB pressures.

They have a good team and great defense. However, the offense is nowhere near the level of their defense.

Pretty much what I saw too. I think Cade was "protected" last night because Dabo understands the struggles of the OL. He will see more snaps the next 2 weeks, and then the NC State game I could see them trailing by a TD or less and he inserts Cade to spark it and if they win it, then it's Cade's job. Just the scenario playing out in my head.

I think the NC State game could be the turning point although NC State doesn't look as good as advertised.

I'd love for Clemson to lose a game and then for us to knock them out of the conference championship race by beating them at their place. It will be a difficult task at their place, but I don't think any team fears them. They might even lose at FSU.

We can beat these guys.
I agree. It's going to be an intriguing matchup.

It is unclear at this point how improved our offensive line will be. We will know more this week, and a lot more on 9/17. We will absolutely need to stay healthy at this position group. Clemson's DL is the country's best-in-class.

Clemson's defense as a whole is stout. It will help if Chaney returns. It will help us if the receivers emerge. TVD vs. their defense is a strength-on-strength matchup.

Clemson's offense is inconsistent. Ukelele isn't good. It's not clear who their QB will be by the time we match up with them. Our LBs are a weakness. Ivey's coverage is weak, and the Williams Brothers must improve their tackling. Our DL could be solid, but that's indeterminate at this time.

Their offense vs. our defense may be a weakness-on-weakness matchup.

In the past, their coaching staff was wholly superior to ours. That's now far more even.

Things can change tremendously during the course of a season, but right now, I'd expect a close, and hard-fought game.

(y)👍👍

Spot on with the summary from last night

Uiagalelei locks in on one receiver and has little feel for the pass rush or any sense of when to step up in or escape from the pocket. This is his third year in the program; you'd think he be much further along at this point, but it sure seems possible (if not likely) that he's simply not a big-time QB. The freshman showed more innate QB savvy in one mop-up possession. He also looks much more nimble than Uiagalelei.

The offensive line is mediocre. Neither physically imposing nor explosive off the ball. "They are what they are" as the saying goes. Makes it pretty apparent why Swinney — who probably stays out of the portal as much if not more than any coach at the Power 5 level — went after two OL transfers (but whiffed on both) in the spring.

I don't see it with the receivers or the running backs. No home run hitters from what I could tell. Just solid, maybe some Day 3 draft pick types. With a big-time QB and an upgraded OL, I'm pretty sure they'd look a good bit better.

The defense is, of course, legit. Speed and explosion to the ball like we used to have — and no doubt what CMC is recruiting to bring us back. Seemed to lose focus and got sloppy with tackling and a few coverages as the game progressed. Assuming the new DC can get those things squared away.

Would be pretty **** surprised if the Tigers aren't 5-0 when they get to Trailerhassee on Oct. 15.

That Sampson kid for clemson looked real deal. Must be fun.

Excellent post. Manny's teams constantly shot themselves in the foot with either bad turnovers, penalties, mental mistakes, etc. I don't know how much Cristobal was able to rectify after 1 offseason, but if we can play smart football and not make mistakes, I think we can keep this game competitive.

It's not just DJ. I saw some suspect play out of Clemson's OL and WR's. I didn't see a lot of gamebreaking speed from their WR's, and they dropped at least 3 or 4 passes.

DJ isn’t taking Clemson anywhere imo. He played the whole game sleep walking. The frosh is a legit dual threat with a cannon.
