Gary Ferman Interviews Swasey

I love how guys like DP are outraged--dude never experienced a championship team a day in his life. Has no clue what a real Miami squad is or what it looks like. Its not his fault, he wasa great player. HOWEVER, when you respond like this regarding the firing of a coach who has been a major part of 10 years of terrible ball, you look absurd.

Seriously. I get that Swasey helped out a lot of the players on the team as a person, and that's commendable...but these bozos need to stop lecturing people on what UM athletics are all about. They never played for a winning UM team in their lives and probably don't even remember when UM was actually good.

I wish they had recorded Richt's reaction as he was evaluating Swasey's "work"

Hey Andreu, the door is that way

Richt.webp

Legit question: are there any former OL and DTs coming out for Swasey?

At the end of the day Swasey should have been a assistant this whole time. He was a speed specialist and that's it.

The trenches is where we always got our **** pushed in against any team with a pulse. It started back in 03 when we couldn't ever get a 1st down on 3rd and short...

If Swasey was too dim to pass a certification exam for S&C, how could he possibly be smart enough to create, monitor, and adjust individualized S&C programs for 80 players? Unbelievable :confusion:

i see we have lots of Internet bad asses on this thread. I'm sure all of u casting hate towards Swasey have never at anything. Anything.

The man was okay. Not his fault he was kept for so long. Blame Coker, Shannon and Golden as all three could've let him go but chose to keep an average employee.

Good luck to Swasey.

It also didn't help Swasey's cause that he struggled to pass an NCAA mandated certification course for strength coaches this past season, preventing him from personally working with the team in his weight room.

Wow! That tells you all that you need to know. He should have been gone a long time ago.

Soooooooooooooo, for the record; we had an incompetent MAC coach, who had a sub 30 winning pct against teams with a pulse, and a sub 20 winning pct against teams with heart.

We had a def coordinator who thought he was a genius, but consistently fumbled through his paperwork to call plays and thought a safety who ran a 4.8 was Deon Bushesq.

We had a DB coach who allowed players to talk back to him and did absolutely nothing in player development and recruiting

We had an o-coordinator who was successful only on script plays and called for a HB option pass in a blizzard where trained QBs were having trouble throwing the ball

We had an o-line coach, God bless his soul, who lived off the past, called former players to tell them to stop complaining about the crappy coaching, and who's o-line set unbelievable negative play records, and almost got our franchise QB killed in the past 2 yrs.

We hired a d-line coach who's body work consist of him "leaving" programs after 2 yrs or less and his last stint was at FIU.

Now, ur telling me our S & C coach was unable to past the prerequisite to be considered a true S & C coach, and wasn't allowed to be with the kids to train them in S & C and yet he was on the payroll??

THANK GOD, this chitty dog and pony clown production is out of my face!

Yikes, it hurt reading this.
And yet Blake needed til the season was over to conduct his evaluations.

For anyone interested, google CSCS exam thread. There is a thread on the T nation forums. Only 65% of test takers will pass on the first attempt. Test takers with a formal education in exercise science, kinesiology should have an easier time but it's the way this exam asks the questions. This is from someone who failed the exam on their first attempt.

This is my first post here and I apologize for not chiming in sooner as I've been following it during my prep for the CSCS. I appreciate everyone's help here tremendously...All said, I sat for my test a week ago -- aced the scientific, but just missed the Practical by 2 Qs! It's a bitter pill to swallow, but having zero background in Exercise Science and doing all the prep on my own, I felt like it was a small achievement..My father actually is a professor in Ex. Sci. and said his grad students (Masters in Coaching) routinely fail this exam.

Funny: I did very well on the practice tests. My feeling about the new format is the 3-answer type allows for more content, which these Qs did have compared to the practice tests. Of course, that wasn't true for all Qs (eg, simple recall-type questions), but for many the information was denser. So, there's a tradeoff IMO. The 4-answer formation was trickier in terms of elimination (I took the GMAT and this was the strategy), but those with extra content made this negligible.

Now I'm sitting in that 90-day limbo-land. If I could jump in there tomorrow, I could probably do just fine, but I have to wait. I'm wondering if anyone could chime in about the NSCA-CPT. I have a contingent offer for a job in a gym and I need something. I have no aspirations of working in the NCAA or pro sports; the CSCS was the most interesting content-wise and that's why I went for it, even though it was a huge stretch for me. But so close! My thinking now is to go for the CPT with a week or two of prep (while all the info is fresh) and then take the CSCS later. I see lots of people have both certs anyway...

Anyway, thanks again for all the help here (to everyone). Good luck to those taking the test soon!

He's been here for 15 years, at a premier sports University. His one job in life is to be able to train players and get the certifications needed to do so. That he was unable to, or unwilling to put in the work needed to, shows the man was negligent in his duties to the school and his players.

The Swasey slurpers and sympathists need to watch this. This is how it should be done.

Typical ****ty journalism from that assbag.

It also didn't help Swasey's cause that he struggled to pass an NCAA mandated certification course for strength coaches this past season, preventing him from personally working with the team in his weight room.

"I don't think that had anything to do with it, not from what I was told," he said.

Swasey says he's not upset about getting let go. He wants to dwell on all the great memories from the day he took over in 1997.

How long could he not workout the team? News to me that he took over in '97.

He also listed a lot of players from many years ago as those who come and work out. I told you all that those numbers were down, not many NFL'ers around anymore.

I am honestly not a huge fan of the man's tactics, but this was honestly a very solid article.

I don´t know. IMO he seems to be very biased towards Swasey. WTF is this BS about "struggling to pass"??? Swasey didn´t "struggle to pass" it he literally failed it. If Frank Gore struggles to get the first down, he got it, but fighting for every inch. If I told you I had struggled to pass my driving test, that would mean I have a driving licence, but struggled to get it. If Maleek struggled to stay eligible for his Junior season, he was eligible but but made a real meal out of it.

Swasey failed and should have been fired on the spot. Why he wasn´t is a huge question that any self-respecting journalist should be spending a lot of time on right about now.

This cat has produced some of the weakest, fattest, and slowest Canes teams I've ever seen...on top of that he struggled to pass a course that is required by the NCAA that qualifies him to do his job...and he "just didn't see this coming?"

Wow.
