Garvin looks slow off the edge

Let’s talk about it, I’ve been saying it but he’s been a disappointment since the Boston college game last year in terms of pass rush without 1 sack and that was what? 8 games or so ago.

He and patchan needs to be playing on the same side not occupying both end spots at the same time if he’s not going to get after the qb

Dating back to the Boston college game
Which was 8 games, Jonathan garvin has a half a sack and only 4.5 tfls. That’s not cutting it for what’s supposed to be your top edge rusher

So far this season
Garvin played 49 snaps vs uf and 59 vs unc(108 snaps total)

0 sacks
0.5 tfls.

Gregory Rousseau had 14 snaps vs uf and 12 snaps vs unc(26 snaps total)

2 sacks
3.5 tfls
People can point to whatever they want and complain about Not having that Gerald Willis presence at dt which is true to some extent but this is an even bigger issue. Patchan and garvin getting all of these snaps despite not being that productive. Trevon hill is also an nfl talent and he’s barely even playing a little more than Rousseau too with about 30-34 snaps or so. I saw at least 2 times vs unc where hill disrupted unc offense for a tackle for loss, 1 which I thought should have been listed as a sack.

Patchan by the way 43 snaps vs uf , 45 snaps vs unc. (88 snaps total)
0 tfls
0 sacks.

I think half is what they are making him do and the other half is that maybe he isnt that first rounder that they fed you.
He’s also “the man” now. He’s not sneaking up on anyone and who else on that line gives the offense any fear? Only Rousseau and he’s not an every down lineman yet

Agreed. All that time of game planning for Chad Thomas, JJ, GW3 has now been allocated to him. He needs to be more effective but I don't know if he can unfortunately. I think hill needs to get more burn maybe Garvin can play on Patchan's side for a series.

Say all you want about Kul but pass rushing was his bread and butter, wouldn't be surprised if that had to do with some of the dropoff. He looked like he was primed to be a pass rushing monster those two consecutive weeks vs VT and ND. He also put on a decent amount of weight. Sigh

You mean the guy who doesnt have a job right now?

So we're blaming the DL coach that was hired in March because Simpson jumped ship?
Yeah I dont See how it’s on him. The two starters are just not being productive enough and it needs to change. We need them to play better if they are going to get all of these snaps. Rousseau with his limited snaps are vastly outproducing them

Pass rush sucks. Run defense is 10x. Better, no 100 yard rusher through two games,

I agree with Brock tho Hill and Roussea should probably get a bit more burn on passing downs.

I don’t really like when our ends stand up to rush. I can’t recall a sack when our ends were stood up since manny got here in 2016
