Game 44: 4/26/25 BC

Do you remember some of the teams we played in that year too for non conference? Long Beach State, Cal St Fullerton, USC, UCLA. We played Elon too 1-2 times. We lost to SC that year in Supers in the 9th or we would have went back to Omaha. Probably 1-2 SEC teams not named UF we on the schedule too. Baseball had the same mind set as football...anyone anytime any place. Our record was so so but our schedule was unreal. That W-L record wasnt great but the schedule was.

Baseball has exceeded my expectations. I truly thought 24-28 wins. I still dont believe we are all that great....but we are scrappy and seem to capitalize on mistakes and hang around in some games we dont deserve to win just long enough to sneak out wins (Like BC yesterday). Mix in that the ACC overall is def down a touch with the middle of the pack teams. Its the perfect recipe for us to be where we are. Watching Cuvet get hot and us rip off some wins has been fun. Just need to keep it going a bit longer.

For post season I almost hope we do just enough to get a 3 seed and then sneak into a weaker region. I've resigned myself to JD getting another year and us going through basically the same type of season. But we are going to have a very very good group of Fr/Sophs on the roster next year. So JD is either going to figure it out or whoever comes in next has a chance to hit the ground running.

All that being said....I'm ready for a swift kick in the nads at any point to bring us back to earth.

This is where I’m at, but I would also be thrilled if we upset somebody

What has impressed me the most during this stretch is how we are doing it with essentially an entire lefty lineup while facing lefties. It sucks that we didn't get to see the best of Williams with the pitching and offense working well. If he was still healthy the lineup threat would take a SIGNIFICANT jump just from his power threat which we don't have besides Cuvet and the occasional Ogbomb.

It's not perfect, but we at least have an identity now: Rock with the starters for 5-6, handoff to Smith/Fischer, and get Bwalt with a lead to close. The offensive identity is still hit or miss, but with guys like Cuvet and Ogden who can create a spark, there is real potential for the rest of the lineup to follow suit

Fischer is why I love baseball. He really has no right having the success he is all of the sudden having. But man…confidence goes a long way. You walk out on the bump thinking you can dominate and you can.

After the first 5-6 months of the season, I was thinking this guy is in way over his head.
He has been a great bridge out of the bullpen.
For this team to move forward, we need something out of Dorn, Fernandez, any other forgotten arm.
We have to limit the use of the few arms we have carrying us.

So, no hope of a return this year then? I never saw a final prognosis reported.

Agree. Hamate injuries usually sap a player's ability to drive the ball for several months.

So sure he could return, but he won't be the same hitter anytime this season
Caden Bogenpohl is a monster. Had hamate surgery in January and is having a down year in power and slug. It takes six months to get back fully to normal.

Could you honestly say with a straight face that if JD wasn’t retained, the pool of candidates would be a clear upgrade? Because that’s the overarching theme of this it’s not his fault he took the job. And I didn’t think the two other candidates that were rumored were better than he was by a lot. They were better, but by a very narrow margin now you can say he doesn’t deserve the job and you’d be right. but I think there’s a minimization of the program at play that has nothing to do with JD or any coach before him.

You are totally delusional if you think the pool of candidates for the Miami baseball job would be a bunch of JAGS who are barely better than JD Arteaga.

So I’m totally delusional if I think the problem goes far beyond the head coach? Really? Interesting that you really think after hiring back to back career assistant coaches they’ll all of a sudden turn around and have top candidates banging down their door? We already have evidence to the contrary.
