Game 4 Regional: Southern Miss

As it should be.

I think sometimes our younger fans don't understand the prestige of this program.

2nd most appearances in Omaha all-time
6 appearances in the final, 6th most all-time
5th most championships all-time
4th most wins in Omaha all-time

Winning a regional as a 3-seed is cool. This weekend was fun. We've sucked for a while, so baby steps are cool.

But this is one of the 5 most preeminent programs in America. FULL ******* stop.

Winning regionals are the floor here, not things our coaches should be carried off the field for.
It's true I mean the best Miami team I've ever gotten to see is probably 2008... so that's pretty depressing. Would love to return to that.

Obviously same with the football team. I hate you guys

Better history than I realized. Right now hard to say they are a top 15 program. But certainly could easily get back to perennial top ten.

I'm talking about all-time. In the history of the sport.

Miami's baseball history is considerably more decorated than its football history. People forget that often.

It's why I was so against the JD hire in the first place. You are legitimately one of the 5 bluest blue-bloods in the sport. You don't hire a first time manager who wasn't even great as a pitching coach.

But I digress...we're in the supers, hopefully this weekend is fun and somehow we can get to Omaha, something nobody in their wildest dreams could have seen coming at any point in the last 2 years. My post was more to point out that the history here is RICH. Scrooge McDuck swan-diving into gold coins rich. Puffing your chest out because you won a regional against the worst national seed ain't it. We used to just sharpie into the schedule hosting a regional. It was clockwork. We need to get back to that.

I understand. It's amazing history.

It's like UCLA or Indiana in basketball. Their history is incredible, but right now they aren't up there with Duke, UNC, Kentucky and UCONN. At the same time, very easy for programs with that pedigree to get back in a flash.

100%. In baseball, Miami is one of the blue-blood programs, thanks to the guy this forum is named after. It was always an extreme disappointment to not host a regional. More often than not, when we did host, and even a couple times when we didn't, we moved on to the CWS. Even considering the national titles we do have, I can count at least 3 or 4 years off the top of my head when we clearly had the best, most talented team and really should have won the title...thinking specifically of 1996, 1997 and 2008. Several other teams that could have won titles. I was little, but I remember some fun times at the Light. I was at all the regionals from 1982 on....I swear there was a run of a few years where it felt like we were eliminating UF every year in our regional. I also seem to remember winning a regional in Tallahassee, though I could be wrong. There was that one year in the 90s where we got sent out west as a #1 seed, with a bunch of gorilla ball West Coast teams, that was kind of a joke.

Anyway, as that kind of a blue blood program.....like many of you, I really didn't feel like we needed to settle for hiring former players whose fathers were major donors. I can almost guarantee that if Miami had done a full, open national search when Morris retired, a bunch of great coaches would have been interested. Opportunity lost/missed.

All the youngins here need to educate themselves on Miami-LSU 1996.

That is an order.

Funny story, I hired a guy a month ago who played for NC State when Braun hit the HR that send us to Omaha. Said, “Yall had come back like 5 runs or whatever. I knew as soon as it left his bat. I didn’t even turn around to watch it.”
