Game 4 Regional: Southern Miss

Texas started the season 38-7 but finished 6-9, is that a failed season?

If Miami did that this year, what would we rather have?

There’s no way we can go next year with this talent level, it’s just not sustainable for deep runs

We lost 6 out of our last 7 ballgames. In horrifying fashion, most of them. We got run-ruled in the ACC Tournament by a team I wasn't sure played baseball. I'm loving being in the supers as well, I was excited last night, I'm pumped for the kids and for JD personally because I know he's a Cane.

But let me tell you a story about a guy named Kevin Keatts. Way back in March of 2025, Kevin was fired as the Head Coach of NC State Basketball. Which was scrutinized, because his team had just gone to the Final Four the year before. They certainly weren't the most talented team, but they went on a run, so by your logic, that's clearly coaching, right? Well why did they fire him one year later?

Because, aside from the March run of 2024 (which was awesome and fun and definitely happened and everyone should be applauded for it and people were happy), Coach Keatts was 17-14 the rest of 2024, and was 12-19 in 2025. And not very good in the years before the Final Four run.

So was he a great coach? Or did he catch lightning in a bottle for a couple weeks and make it to the Final Four? The powers that be in Raleigh sure seem like it was the latter.

So, again, good for JD, good for Miami Baseball, and I hope we keep it going. But 4 days in Hattiesburg doesn't erase the stink of 2 seasons. Sorry. Not here, not at this program. Win the series in Louisville and get to Omaha? Now we're starting to smoke. Win a game or two in Omaha?? Now we're starting to cook with gas. But, while we're in the process of running to see who can blow JD first, let's see how things shake out this weekend. I'm happy for him right now, I'm happy for the kids, that was one of the few enjoyable moments I've had following this program for many years now. So it's cool, and it's all good right now. But while you may not agree to pump the brakes, let's at least tap them. Making the supers and getting embarrassed twice in Louisville puts everyone right back in the same mood they've been for 98% of the last couple years.
LMAO You could have written this horse crap in much fewer paragraphs.

If Miami baseball can win the Hattiesburg Regional at +410 odds and with this lack luster of talent on this team, the football team this year has no ******* excuses at +430

Odds makers didn’t look at a power rankings formula like they do with football. Every game is priced depending on pitching matchups and series price goes off of that. Change super regionals and you’ll get different prices. Murray St had a better season than Miami and just won a tougher regional. I’m once again asking you to provide a fact based argument as to why they are worse.
I hate to jump in here, but...

I can't find one source that has Murray's SOS lower than 200th.
I've got Nolan showing Miami's SOS at 7th.

Yes, Murray State played well this past weekend, but I think the So Miss/Bama Combo vs Ole Miss/GT is a wash.
I'm not saying So Miss is better than Ole Miss, but they did split their 2 midweek games during the year.

If your eye test results say Murray is better, I can't argue with what you see.
They went 42-14, win their conference and won a tougher regional. Idk how much more clear I can be about that. I didn’t say they were a better team than Miami or played a harder schedule.

State still wanted to fire Keatts no matter what the final 4 year. They just couldn’t bc he had an auto extension in his contract if he won the ACCT.

Baseball is a game of odds. If you simulated the season 100 times with this roster, the results would not be up to the standard.

We had some things go our way with how the bracket played out and another break with the super regional match up.

I’m not trying to take anything away from this team, they exceeded expectations and JD deserves some credit for that.

But we need a serious infusion of talent over the coming seasons or it will be back to status quo and we will not get so lucky. I’m not convinced JD can build those types of rosters. If JD can’t use this success to build momentum with attracting talent, this success will do more harm than good for this program longer term.

My mistake, the discussion started with one poster saying Miami was the worst team left.
I agree that odds aren't the way to do it.

As far as a tougher regional, I disagree.
As I said, the So Miss/Bama combo vs Ole Miss/GT is a wash, IMO.

Both of DiMare's National seed teams were viewed as "failed seasons" by our fanbase because of the Regionals. So yes I think we all know our fanbase would be melting down if we just had Texas's season.

DiMare was actually an excellent regular season coach, but the standard of our program is "Omaha or bust"

As it should be.

I think sometimes our younger fans don't understand the prestige of this program.

2nd most appearances in Omaha all-time
6 appearances in the final, 6th most all-time
5th most championships all-time
4th most wins in Omaha all-time

Winning a regional as a 3-seed is cool. This weekend was fun. We've sucked for a while, so baby steps are cool.

But this is one of the 5 most preeminent programs in America. FULL ******* stop.

Winning regionals are the floor here, not things our coaches should be carried off the field for.
