Game 29: 3/30/25 UNC 4-2 W (15-14)

Gutsy win; the maligned pitching staff silenced UNC’s bats today. I also liked JD pulling Roberts when it was getting dicey, being proactive v. reactive.

Yeah UNC gifted us, but u still have to take advantage of those gifts:
-We don’t get the wild pitch run if not for Williams busting his a$$ on the bags.
-We don’t get the explosive 9th inning if Peralta doesn’t bust his a$$ down the line on a defensive misjudgment, causing doubt, which changed the balance of the momentum.

We could’ve easily swept this UNC this weekend; in fact, UNC was much better last season & we secured that series 2-1. This is a very mediocre squad where a couple of mishap innings cost us a 3-0 weekend.

Hopefully, JD instills confidence in this squad moving fwd, letting them know we were 2 bad innings away from sweeping this team, a perceived ACC baseball power. Hopefully he can salvage their confidence, & thus the season. I saw some potential building blocks today, IF it’s honed.

That’s the best silver lining I can give off a dismal 1-3 week.

It is tough because we deserve so much better as a baseball program, but are likely to limp to a finish that gives JD more time... purgatory

Well if we don’t do **** this week, yeah. Pitt is another mediocre ACC team, so we should go no less than 3-1 this week. If we struggle against FIU & Pitt, don’t allow JD to get on the plane, bus, in a taxi…in fact, foreclose on his house, & revoke his badge to enter the facilities.

For sure. And we celebrate the wins!
 
Two take aways from this weekend.

Miami is a below average team in all facets of the game. As we already knew.

Carolina is not good enough to be ranked. They have a good pitching staff, which makes them dangerous in any 3 game series or regional format. But nobody that could for sure shut down and beat the best teams in the country. Their lineup isn’t very deep. Conference play has brought them down to earth. Their squad last year would destroy this years team.

They are ranked #14th in hitting stats in the ACC.Miami is #15th. Nothing more needs to be said...
Can Miami sweep Pitt next weekend?
I'm happy to see the influx of freshmen on the mound and in the field this weekend.
Gaby and Kulokowski pinch hitting was a surprise. I didn't even have them on my travel roster.
Does Collera get the start against FIU? Or at least a 3 inning role?

I'm guessing JD is going w the "play the youngsters" at this point, in hopes of convincing the administration to give him another year (which they probably promised anyway) w his recruits.

Why go 3-1…then they may expect it. Just shoot for 2-2 and you have job security.

The entire program reminds me of tank for Tua when you have Grier…why bother.
