UVA is a darn good team and they have a darn good coach (Tony Bennett). They're 12-0 and #3 in RPI. Last year they made the sweet 16 and lost a close game to MSU. UVA is 3-0 on the road.

Who have they beat?

Everyone they played. They played the #8 SOS (http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/ranking/strength-of-schedule-by-team)

Their best wins are against:

@ Maryland (13-1 and now ranked #12)
@ VCU (10-3)
Davidson (9-2, UVA came back from 12 to win)
and although Harvard is not a good team they did hold them to 27 total points

Who do they have?

Justin Anderson: 15.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 1.8 APG
Malcolm Brogdon: 13.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG and 2.9
Anthony Gill: 13.2 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 1.0 APG

Some Notes:

UVA is 30th in rebounding, 18th in shooting (FG%) and 41st in 3 Pointers (3PT%). In general, they don't score a ton of points (123rd in scoring), take a lot of 3s (343rd in 3-attempts) or shoot a lot of FGs (269th in attempts).

Spread: Not yet posted+7.5 Miami

Let's go Canes!!!

Part 2: Review of What Happened

So the OOC schedule had it's ups and downs.

It looked like things were going well as we beat a top-10 UF (on the road) and top-25 Illinois. UF went on to struggle and is 7-5 and 110th in RPI. Illinois is 10-4 and 61st in RPI. Both may not make the tourney in the end and neither may be that impressive. Some of those loses Green Bay (11-3 and 42nd in RPI) and Providence (11-3 and 14th in RPI) look to be better now as both may make the tourney. The loss to Eastern Kentucky still reeks of awfulness. EKU is 7-5 and 148th in RPI. Even though EKU made the tourney last year, that loss was harsh.

The common theme in these 3 losses were the following:

1. Guard Play: Angel and Manu

Angel shot the following

Green Bay: 2-15 (FG) and 1-6 (3PT)
EKU: 0-6 (FG) and 0-5 (3PT)
Providence: 6-15 (FG) and 3-7 (3PT)

Manu shot the following

Green Bay: 0-2 (FG) and 0-1 (3PT)
EKU: 3-9 (FG) and 1-5 (3PT)
Providence: 0-5 (FG) and 0-4 (3PT)

Combined Totals: 11-52 (21%) and 5-28 (18%)

This is AWFUL. These kids have the ability to score but these 3 performances are detrimental.

2. Rebounding: In our 3 Losses we were out rebounded

Green Bay: 46-37
EKU: 37-26
Providence: 35-31

The good news is Cruz Uceda is coming back and he is "supposed" to be a rebounding machine. We will see.

3. Intensity and Effort:

All though this is not a stat that is easy to quantify. The team seemed to play down against these opponents and the intensity was not there. If the effort going forward will be similar to these 3 games, it will be a long 2nd half.

Going to be intersting on how much ICU can contribute to the boards.

If he's MIA then it's going to be a long conference road.

Miami is due BIG TIME for a good shooting day. Plus we have to play decent at least defense and get on the boards the whole game. UVA is very well coached. here's to hoping miami can get it done.

They played good, have to be smarter on their shots down the stretch(double overtime).BS no call on the illegal screen to end 1st overtime. Next year is the year we'll run the table
