Brilliant comedian, funny without all the current obscenities. My favorite was we Park in driveways and drive on parkways. He also had a word pronunciation routine that was too true yet very funny. Anyone unfamiliar should Google him...one of the greatest comedy minds ever.

Uh...no...

First of all, Carlin was the guy who came up with all the language stuff first, INCLUDING "park on driveway, drive on parkway". Gallagher tried to be George Carlin, but with the watermelon-smashing routine at the end.

Second, Gallagher was repetitive. He had his moments, sure, but the Sledge-O-Matic was the thing he was known for, and it was repetetetetetive. And don't try to act as if I don't know, I actually saw him live in the 1980s and I saw at least 10 of his stand-up specials on Showtime. It was like going to see a rock band that played the same 6 or 7 hits at every single show, over and over again, for a decade, instead of going to see bands that had great songs on every new album.

Third, Gallagher was a little *****. He (falsely) claimed that he invented the 1-hour one-man show on cable, when guys like Carlin were doing it before he did. And he whined about being "only" #100 on a Comedy Central list of the Top 100 stand-ups of all time, as he (falsely) claimed that he didn't know anyone on the list ahead of him. What a joke. While there are some guys that could be questioned (as they abandoned stand-up a long time ago, like David Letterman and Woody Allen), the entire world has heard of nearly every name on the list:

Higher?

Woody Allen should not be #4, he really shouldn't be listed.

I love Letterman and Jon Stewart, but they should not be on the list.

Ellen DeGeneres is way too high. Same with Albert Brooks. And even Andy Kaufman himself will tell you that he is not even a stand-up comedian.

Hicks ahead of Kinison? I love them both, but Sam gets the edge.
