Gaby’s pre-camp buzz

expectations for Johnson are growing

We'll see what happens in camp, but their expectations for Johnson are growing. Carr doesn't play the slot and Upshaw has already passed him on the depth chart. We will see what everyone does in Fall camp, but I personally see Carr entering the portal again. Everyone fresh in camps we will see. I think all 3 WR transfers are going to better than our fanbase believes. Hopefully it pushes the younger players. If JoJo stays healthy, this room steps up big. Daniels and JoJo eat.
I believe Carr will eventually be the 4th WR in this system playing that Sam Brown / Keelan Marion role as the fast deep threat WR, as he is one of the fastest WR’s on the roster. He has a path to being in the 2 deep at that spot this season and owning it by his RSO season. All depends on how he performs in camp.

One thing that can be said, the competition is finally real at WR the only 3 star on the roster is Tony Johnson, a long way from that core Miami rolled out there in 2022 and 2023 lol.

I agree with the bolded, we finally have some depth at WR. It's not optimal, but it's getting there. So if Carr can't earn his spot, if Upshaw passes him up, or Toney passes up Ray Ray, it's on them.

This is why you need to stack. As D$ said on a recent podcast, only 25% of even 4 stars make it to the NFL. Not every kid projected to be great will be great. Evals are critical, development is critical, but depth is just as critical to create the competition needed to bring the best out of the players.

I'd say difficulty is expected to be:

ND > UF > Louisville / SMU > FSU (Just due to Rivalry I believe it'll be close) > NCSt > VTech > Syracuse > Pitt > Stanford > USF > Bethune

In terms of Importance I'd say:

Lousiville / SMU > ND > FSU / UF > NCST > Syracuse > VTech > Pitt > Stanford > USF > Bethune

Of course ND and UF are pretty much irrelevant when it comes to making the ACC Championship Game, which given they should be our 2 toughest and earliest games is a good thing. If we only lose 1 ACC game I think we are in the ACCCG against Clemson.

I think the key game is really Louisville. Obviously NCSt and after on this list should all be expected wins, no excuses. FSU is a rivalry so even if I don't think they're very good I usually expect it to be close. I'd still expect the win of course. Louisville and SMU are the keys to the season, so as long as we beat one of them, I really like our chances. And the good news is we do have a bye before Louisville and it's at home on a Friday. So I view that one as the game we absolutely gotta have. Losing to Lousiville puts a LOT of pressure on the SMU game for sure.

I don't actually view the ND game as something that'll likely end up telling us too much, like It's probably more telling to how we'd perform in playoffs or against clemson than it is running the table in ACC tbh. ND is just going to be so much more different than anyone else we play on our ACC Schedule. Like even if we come out and kill ND, I won't think that will be a very good indicator on how we'll perform against Louisville and SMU who are our 2 most important games of the season. because A) Its game 1, B) ND will be starting a true frosh while Lousville and SMU will have pretty good proven QBs and C) I think they will have by far the best defense we play in the regular season, and it won't even be close.

10-2 is what I'd predict. I'd pick us to go 11-1 before 9-3 though. And Honestly I'd pick us to beat ND before I picked us to beat SMU AND Louisville.

Man I'm such a homer... @RVACane

TIFWIW

-Brown getting a lot buzz, will be on kick returns too with Marion

- Best OL they’ve had so far

-Toney expected to make a big impact right away in the slot

-They think Josh Moore is a star on the outside. They love Upshaw, the WR class is a big hit

-Schottand Gilbert are physically ready

-Blount looking explosive. Lightfoot flashing and Lowe is as advertised

-Toure the biggest pickup of the offseason. Game wrecker. Pruitt had a great offseason. Wiley will take some time to develop but is a freak athlete

-Lucas and OJ are big time. o’Connor needs to add weight but is an impact player

-Scott looks great back at nickel. “Home run addition”. Will be the punt returner

-Safety is a big question mark. They need Thomas to be good
Gaby had good info. Gotta hand it to him.
