Gaby’s pre-camp buzz

True but the top tier programs stack up. For example, look at all the injuries Texas dealt with at RB and didn’t miss a beat. Injuries are gonna happen. We are no where near that level.
What Texas team did you watch? They were near the bottom of the nation in rushing as expected due to the injuries. So the not missing a beat is an inspector gadget reach. Their defense carried them because Ewers couldn’t play QB for the Pike frat flag football intramural team at Miami.

They were 63rd in the nation and still ran for nearly 3k with all those RB’s out. Mind you, that’s in the SEC. If you think we can do that with 3 of our top backs out for the season then i can’t help you.

This is if our expectations is acc championship and/or playoffs..

** Idk-Meh-Ok-Solid-Good-Very Good- Great **

QB - Good if healthy
RB - Ok/Solid. Needs a leap from lyle or fletch,
WR - Idk
TE - Solid
OT - Very good, would be great if bell improves
IOL - Good

DE- Very good. Need one more pass rusher ro emerge
DT- Meh/Ok, i like moten and blay. Scott and jones good prospects but i don’t like having multiple young inexperienced guys in the trenches rotation
LB- Solid/Good. If you ask me kiko was one of our worst players last year so im probably in the minority on this group but i thought wes was really good last year especially 1st half of the year, i thought popo was solid in the small sample size he had. Gotta see mo healthy
CB - Great
S - Ok
Serious question to the group because I feel like I’m missing something and others know more than I do…

Everyone seems iffy about our WR situation, but in the spring I recall hearing everyone rave about Jojo and Toney and how excited they were, and that they were balling out (unless I am thinking of someone else?). And we brought in (what seem to be pretty solid) transfers. Obviously, I understand we are replacing everyone, so that is part of it. But is it just a wait-and-see through fall camp thing, is it still a depth issue, are we concerned about the guys gelling with Beck, or is it something else? Or a combo?

So what’s everyone thinking?

I take practice reporting very lightly, especially spring with young players. I like jojo and toney as prospects but if the expectation are playoffs/winning the conference then no, im not fully believing a room that the potential stars have never played full starter snaps

I think to get the best beck we need very good weapons, I can’t say without a doubt our wr room has that this year

I wonder if he is just the sure handed guy that will be the "up" return man. i.e. he is there to mainly block and lead the way and Marion will be the deep guy but if they try to avoid him and kick it short we have a bit of a bruiser to plow ahead? That would be my only guess. I seem to recall X on KO returns early in his career. I think he was the one who made the big block that sprung brashard smith in that texas AM game. Kind of the same thing, X was sure handed, not a burner, strong as **** and could lead the way with very good vision to see a hole and have the burner behind em.
We should be tired of throwing the safe sure handed returner out there. It's time to get back to real Miami football and be able to change games on returns. We have been a just catch the kick operation for years. Where is the juice?

Thanks for responding. I figured that was the case but, like I said, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

Btw, SI is also predicting big seasons for Jojo and Toney:

Context matters...who did they rush on in the SEC? They literally played the bottom half of the SEC except Georgia and they had 67 yards.

2-10 Mississippi St
6-7 Oklahoma
7-6 Vandy
7-6 Florida
7-6 Arkansas
4-8 Kentucky
8-5 A&M

So lets not act like they went through some gauntlet as you're leading to believe. Thus I can't help you.

Wool removed!!!

I think we wanted/needed a "sure thing" outside WR to pair with Daniels and Trader, and we absolutely missed on one. It's not a question about our current talent, it's an issue with how young that talent is and the lack of numbers. Point blank we are going into this season where yeah we COULD be excellent talent wise if Trader, Toney, Daniels perform like we all feel they have the ability to combined with if we get Josh Moore, Carr, and Marrion to all play well (and like they have the clear talent to), then yeah things could be absolutely great. But there obviously should be some caution that we are going into this season with so much youth at the position. That's really all there is to it. And if one of Daniels or Trader are injured the numbers becomes a real issue, particularly on the outside. I have basically no real issue or concern about the slot position tbh. Because I believe that Trader and Toney should be the primary slot WRs. Like I think Toney should probably be expected to maybe get 50% of the slot snaps I guess if he's really that good as a true frosh. But the remaining imo should be like Daniels and Marrion outside and Trader in the slot a lot. Sometimes Lofton will be in slot. Sometimes we will have Carr/Upshaw. I'm not a fan of Ray Ray, but he'll be able to contribute some I guess. And then worst case the older transfer Johnson should be a high floor baseline.... So really slot should have very little concern tbh.

I have never had a problem with the talent we had at the position. But we could have really used a high floor high confidence outside WR this season.

All of this + Beck having very limited time to throw with them before the season starts. I'm expecting some timing issues/wrong routes run early in the season from Beck+ the inexperience of the WR group.
