Gaby’s pre-camp buzz

Even starting 2-2 losing to ND and FLA still could run the conference and be in the playoffs. It’s a lot of different scenarios …. Miami’s problem is when we have the chance to control the narrative … we fold
Based on Strength of Schedule …?

I know ND will be good but having a hard time thinking that a first time starting QB can come into Hard Rock and win.

And are the Gators that much better than last year just because of DJ? Trying to figure out where the hype is coming from. Another crazy home game with the fans on our side this time. Not predicting a victory but definitely happy to be at home this year.
I have watched the Gator game from last year 3 times and the Gators self destructed via 2 horrific penalties that changed the entire complexion of the game. With that being said, we no longer have Cam and he had an awesome day. They have a returning QB that matured quite a bit over last year. Let's see what happens but we need Carson Beck to have an outstanding year. The defense must step up and be aggressive. Both ND and FL games are not only winnable but anything less in my book is a failure. I just don't have a ton of faith in Mario as a head coach on the sidelines.

I’m at 9-3 right now:

Split ND UF SMU and Ville

Drop an oopsie game (most likely @ Pitt)

We must destroy The Narduzzi!

I'm with you but I think we are more likely to drop games like VT and Pitt (one or both of these will be night games....in late Nov) than we are SMU and Louisville, imo. Fizzling at the end of November terrifies me more than Sept/Oct, especially when ACCCG will hang in the balance. We typically choke those kinds of games away.
My biggest concern is the teams that get easy rides through conference play in these large conferences.

If a legitimately good team draws a favorable schedule and then steals a tough game then you have an Indiana situation where the 4th best team in the league ends up in the title game ahead of better teams because they didnt play many tough opponents.

Felt SMU, Clemson, and Indiana were dealt easy hands last season.

cuz he didn't play lol

You're kind of proving my point. You don't even remember that he played in 11 games and had about 100 snap counts. Yet he just wasn't that memorable. Those snap counts would have kept going up in that crap defense if he was flashing.

I'm not saying he can't be the guy we hope he will be. I'm just not expecting it this season from him. I think he needs another season to bake, personally.

He will look good with the new D coordinator

That's a very reasonable take and I agree. I do however expect a better than above average defense for many of the same reasons you listed plus the insane infusion of talent in the secondary. Depth at Safety still concerns me but Poyser/Thomas at Safety, Scott at Nickel plus the quantum leap at CB will be night and day compared to last year. Add Toure at LB and the coming of age of the 2nd year killers at DE to compliment Bain/Mesidor plus the trio of Blay/Scott/Moten at DT and there is some serious talent on defense. Also, the quality of the coaching staff on defense has been markedly upgraded at least on paper. I think a lot will come down to Corey Hetherman and his performance at DC in terms of game planning and game day. I'm very bullish on this year's defense. I think the DL is going to shock some people.
I want to see us stifle average to below average offenses especially if we get a good lead and force the team to be one dimensional.

I’m tired of struggling against teams that have an average recruiting ranking the last five years in the 20s when ours are pushing in the top ten.

I agree on both but I’m just being realistic. You need to go 3-1 and 7-1 for us to make Charlotte imo and this seasons going to be tougher. My biggest fear is starting 4-0 and losing two in ACC play and missing out again.

***** *** energy tonight… There is no splitting UF & ND and feeling good about ourselves… 7-5 *** mentality. We’re the ******* U. We recruit at a top 15 level and our coach is highly compensated.

We go 4-0 against our rivals this year. Period. This is the only year we play all of these *******.

I appreciate the passion don’t necessarily disagree, but the season is just that. It’s not a night.

For example, if we lose 24-23 to Notre Dame, and then run the table, finish 11-1, win the ACC and get the #3 overall seed and first-round bye, bro when I tell you I won’t give a flying, walking, jogging, wobbling **** about that Notre Dame game….

Man, I hope so. Would be an awesome story. He'd literally be the big man on campus. We fans need it, Mario desperately needs it.... I'm just counting more on Moten based on what I've seen so far.
We know what we have in Moten he’s solid but nothing special. Scott has more upside

We both won’t. As you alluded to, my passion for this thing of ours will not allow me to willingly accept a loss at home to ND. I would probably be a miserable person until if/when we win the ACC.

With this investment and foundation, I believe the people inside Hecht would agree in year 4 and on, 10 wins and undefeated against our rivals should be the expectation annually.

I never wanna lose to ND, UF, FSU, VT again in my lifetime. Of course it is not realistic but this is how I’m wired.
