Future of Defense

Defense is in trouble. Need DL and LBs stat. Ones that can step right in and play.
People said the same thing about the dline last year after losing a lot of contributors, I think people need to sit back and chill and let things play out

We should be looking at JUCO DT's!! Truthfully there shouldn't be a year where we dont atleast see what JUCO DTs are out there. We've got some talented athletes backing up at LB, CB, and S. We've recruited and are recruiting some DOGS at DE. Besides NESTA, I dont see another disruptive DT on the roster. And as WILLIS has shown all year, its alot easier to win games with a dominate DT in the middle.

If this is the secondary
FS SS
1. **** SO FS Hall 1. *** JR SS Carter
2. **** FR FS Stevenson 2.**** FR SS Smith
3. *** RFR FS Knowles 3. *** FR SS Nunn

CB
1. **** JR CB Bandy
2. **** SO CB Blades
3. **** SO CB Ivey
4. **** SO CB Frierson
5. *** RFR CB Bethel
6. **** FR CB Couch
7. *** FR CB Brownlee
8. *** FR CB Good

Then heres what I see. I see the hardest hitting safety tandem in maybe a decade. They might make mistakes, but so long as they dont target, we'll have hart hitters, and Hall is an outstanding cover guy, plus 2 safeties to work in with Smith and Stevenson. At CB I see a stud in Bandy, but even in our three 6'1" 200 pound sophomores I see us reloading with talent. As good as Bandy is now in year 2, I expect at least 2 of Blades, Frierson and Ivey to be that good. Bethel, Couch and maybe Brownlee are the freshmen contributors just honing in the things they are learning. To me, if the DL is eating, this secondary will be all the things we want it to be, fast, aggressive, & prone to cause turnovers.

For the defesive line...
1. *** SR DT Bethel
2. *** JR DT Ford
3. **** SO DT Silvera
4. *** RFR DT Miller
5. **** FR DT Ingraham
6. *** FR DT Holley
7. *** FR DT Blissett
8. *** FR DT Munoz

Ends
1. **** JR DE Garvin
2. **** RSR DE Patchan
3. **** SO DE Rousseau
4. **** FR DE Harvey
5. **** FR DE Williams
6. **** FR DE Weaver
7. **** FR DE Bogle
8. **** FR DE Summerall

If we close with that class, we are set. Ford, Bethel & Nesta probably wont be as dynamic as Willis, but if they can just push the pocket into the QB and shut down the interior run, then guys like Garvin and Rousseau can still dominate and get pressure on the QB for our secondary. Also Ingraham may have G like ability to rush earlier on, so perhaps hes a 3rd down rusher often. If we closed with that class, Id expect 3 of the freshmen to contribute in a big way, leaving 2 to redshirt. Thats plenty of bodies there to stay where we need to be.

Lastly. The LBs have no business leaving, they should come back, I think the will.

Last year everyone was freaking about the secondary, it was fine. This year it was about the DTs, they have been fine. And you can say its cuz of Willis. Yes it helps but he cant play every snap and we rotate alot. I don't worry about Ford, not every player instantly get it. Look at Finley, people were calling for attrition. Once guys become JRs that's usually when your body and knowledge catches up to each other. Especially in the trenches. I also think if a guy is not certain 1st round, high 2nd, they're gonna return. These guys have alot of love for Miami, more than kids in recent past who wanted to bolt as quick as someone mention their names and the draft.

Concerned about the DL. Think we need to target more of these 6'3+ 230+ lbs DE kids instead of the developmental guys especially with our depth. Also need a legit DT(s) so we dont have to keep scouring JUCO every year.
If we get JJ Weaver he would fit ur bill at.DE

hey cane bros

I am loving the youth on offense but i am concerned about the defense losing key players who are seniors:

Willis
Johnson
MJ
Redwine

Plus junior potential departures
JJ and Shaq

Can you help me feel better

Thanks

Nesta, Ford, Bethel, Miller aren't too bad. Add four freshmen and we should be ok. Just need the 4 returning players to all take steps.

DB:
Quan- can't replace him but Carter will play pretty good IMO
MJ- Ivey will need more PT but I think he will do well. Bandy could take another step which will help the back 4.
Redwine- Hall could be an Elite FS.
Add the other '18 and '19 kids and we likely could see a step up as a group.

DE as a group could be better in '19 IF we land the 4 kids we are going after. Cam Williams, Bogle, Weaver, and Harvey - that is ELITE talent.
LB as a group will be a BIG concern IF any of the juniors leave early. McCloud likely plays more at WLB if Pinckney leaves. Steed/Jennings if Shaq leaves.

The '19 class needs to add more players to the D side of the roster. We have 34 kids on D and 43 on O. I'd like to see that level out some with 9-10 on O and 16-17 on D.
