Clemson will eventually win big in this game, but, some early insights

Time of Game: End of 1st QTR

Notes:

1. Clemson DL is as advertised (as you know). They are penetrating into the backfield on every single run play. So far, Dexter Lawrence is unstoppable. Up to this point in the game, Furman has 10 carries for -1 yard. The big play was a bad snap that went over the head of the Furman QB for loss of 30 yards....yes, the center tossed the **** ball 30 yards behind the QB. Other than that, Furman starting RB has about 20 yards on 4 carries.

2. Clemson offense doesn't look good. All of their points have been set up by punt returns. One return was for 25 yards and another return was 62 yards (set up inside the 20 ended up 3 and out with a FG). Bryant is 5-10 for 60 yards 1 TD vs Furman. A lot of his passes have been in the turf, WRs are diving for the ball and etc. Expect to see Lawrence in the ACCCG. Bryant looks like he has regressed.

3. Dabo has already gone for 3 4th downs in this game. The first 4th down was a 4th and 1 on their own 40. They are 3/3 on 4th down conversions.

4. Like I said earlier, I know this game won't be close, but Bryant and Clemson Offense starting off really, really slow.

Initial thoughts on FR QB Lawrence

Lawrence is 2/3 for 22 yards. Clemson WR have YAC because the completions were on short throws (5 yard patterns). Lawrence also had 3 carries for 0 yards on that drive. The drive resulted in a 50 yard FG which was good. Clemson 13-0 9:19 to play in 1st half.

Furman was driving on Clemson D. Went for it on 4th and 1 at Clemons 35, then Wilkins busted up that play.

Lawrence 2nd possession: ended with a TD pass. The drive was prolonged by a couple of defensive penalties. The one big play was a 39 yard pass from Lawrence (could have called off. pass interference on Clemson WR). Passing touchdown was 6 yards.

Lawrence: 6-10(started 2-6) for 110 yds 1TD; 4 carries 1 yd.

Clemson 27-0 1:03 left in 1st half.

Like you pointed out, the WR got away with a push-off on that TD. You know, kind of like those TD bombs they let Lawrence complete in their spring game.

Final Analysis:

This team will be Lawrence's by the ACCCG; there is no doubt about it. Bryant is the better runner, but Lawrence's arm is gold. Lawrence finished 9/15 for 137 yards and 3 TDs after starting 2-6 for 10 yards.

Clemson D did give up some "big" plays to Furman but it was not when the starting D-Line was on the field. Those future pros swallowed up everything.

Clemson's offensive numbers don't mean anything since it's vs. Furman. Tigers' 3rd string QB went 3/4 passing.

Idk if anybody got to watch him, but Lawrence stares down his receivers something awful. Its probably the only thing about his game that he needs to work on though. Dude is accurate as all ****. But watch him stare his targets down.

He obviously has a big arm and is a big strong kid. That being said, he didn't exactly set the world on fire today. And, it was Furman.

Kelly Bryant hasn't improved his downfield passing at all.
That’s literally all we had to do to beat Clemson last year. Trajan got hurt and then we had nobody to cover the slot/crossing routes in the middle and got torched. Plus Rosier forgot how to offense...

Think Lawrence will be better than Bryant. Not sure if it matters who we end up playing just need to get our offense rolling better

Greenville, SC

Oh, I drove through South Carolina to bring my son to UM. The whole ride through that State there were “Adam & Eve Adult Fantasyland” Billboards next to “The End is Near, Jesus Saves” ones. Those people don’t know whether they’re comin’ or goin’ in that place.
