Could be true, but two years later he had so much talent that you could have won the NC. If Ed Reed could have stayed another year, we beat OSU by 14 the next year and there would have been no OT to cheat us. If you wonder why, Ed would never had got that pick 6 stolen from him. That swing effectively would have ended that game.
 
There are no elite assistant coaches waiting for Butch to give them a call. Who is he going to get back Greg Schiano?? I’m sorry nobody would be worried about any team that hires Butch Davis, his time has past.
 
Y'all seem to think the world is the same place as it was in 1995.

Anyone heard of the internet? Scouting services? Yeah... they weren't around back then.

Butch made his name on finding hidden gems that are no longer hidden. He's still a decent coach and recruiter, but what he did at The U is not nearly as feasible today as it was twenty years ago.

No one is sucking him off, but he is our last great coach that built a team the NCAA has never or will ever see again. I’m not just talking about the 01 team he constructed; I’m talking about the shear amount of pro bowl/HOF talent he amassed w one hand tied bhind his back during his entire tenure. He took Schnelly’s blue print, and w 31 reduced scholarships, took us from the ashes to prominence.

Yes, he had his flaws, but when the pieces came together and those scholly numbers went back to normal, u saw what happened w us.

I’ve posted this b4, but I hated Butch when he first got here. However, I was also young and dumb, not truly realizing the gravity of what we had going on here. The NCAA dang near gave us the death penalty, and the media were certain we would never get back. I didn’t understand that back then...all I knew was he wasn’t winning chips like Erickson and he made some decisions on field that didn’t seem right. Now, I truly appreciated what he did for us.

And for those that keep saying look at what he did at UNC; go back and look at their crappy team, too. UNC is a basketball school that gave two f’s about football. There wasn’t another Dre Bly or Julius Peppers or Lawrence Taylor walking through those doors. He made them competitive and was a thorn in Miami’s side his entire time there.

Again, no need to disrespect the dude. FIU is still trash and we’re going to smoke them based upon talent, but he’s got those boys playing good ball for the division they in. Qualified them for a bowl w 8 wins in year one when they were **** poor. He’s from Jimmy’s tree, and w all the hype that came w that ESPN special, I’m sure he would’ve been able to keep some guys home while hand picking under the radar guys we could be very confident in.

Butch Davis came in with one of the toughest NCAA sanctions in history in 1995. That December the NCAA announced that Miami's multiple infractions would result in severe sanctions, including a one-year ban from postseason play and a 31-scholarship reduction from 1996 to 1999 and still Davis built the best college football team off all time. Had also assembled a coaching staff that had three future NFL head coaches not including Davis himself without the funds of other major universities.

If not for the bull**** computer rankings even after UM beat FSU head on, UM should have played in and would have crushed Oklahoma in the NC championship game in 2000

Shalala was the one who was jerking Davis around and then brought in ****** coaches killing Miami football for over a decade.

Davis also was the defensive coordinator on a Super bowl wining team. You still got to give Davis his due.

The talent wouldn't be equal. If FSU hired Butch, he would out recruit all the other schools in the state.

****, Butch may as well go full Heisenberg and tell Bama and Ohio State to stay out of his territory.

Jesus H Christ this might be the single dumbest line I have ever read on a Miami message board. Botch is Botch , what in his career shows he is anywhere in Richt's league? Richt has a better win % , won more bowl games , recruited more talented , got in less trouble ect. If you want to say Saban or Patterson or someone like that is better sure as Richt is somewhere between 8-15 on the top coaches list IMO but Botch isn't in the top 40 even.

Trust me I know I know we can never talk about Butch without bringing up the sanctions, all the talent in the world, first round draft picks and future nfl coaches. When can we talk about wins and losses? Performance?

I don't hate Butch Davis I just don't think he's a great gameday coach.

Hahaha as soon as Butch would skip on a couple of 5 stars for an under the radar guy, yall would be ready to turn on him. Every Butch has been, ended in some type of scandal. Like someone else said, this isnt 20 years ago.
 
I’m sure FSU (and by FSU I mean any Power 5 team) could have gotten Butch at any time in the past ten years if they wanted him. They haven’t.

I’d be more worried about the coach at FAU. He took a team with a worse record than FIU to a better record than FIU.
