This isn't a cop out at all, we suck at this, obviously. But, and yes I know i'm dumb for not really making this connection in my head until now, but these weren't really "Hail Mary's". There was no clock running down, as is almost always the case in what causes a Hail Mary type play. It wasn't even goal to go. FSU could've gotten a first-down at the 15 yard line.
I was kind of going crazy, especially on the first one, thinking how in the **** Danzy got behind everyone and then really he and Day were the only players on that side of the field. How does that happen on a Hail Mary?? Well, probably because it wasn't a Hail Mary. Sorry, most of you are aware of this, I'm sure. Just in the hoopla of the end of the game and how it played out, with them throwing 2 of these back to back, for some reason in my mind I was treating this like a Hail Mary situation where you have 6 DBs standing in the endzone, and wondering why we didn't. Well, especially on the first one to Danzy before the holding call, it was 4th and 21 from the 36. So yes, we should've been playing soft, but they needed 21 to extend the game, not 36. They just treated it like a Hail Mary and ran around and launched it in the endzone. Twice.
Anyway, like I said most of yall I'm sure know this, it was just a weird ending, obviously. You rarely see a play like that, never mind two of them, where the offense really doesn't *have* to do that. You can try to get a first down, you don't have to throw a total desperation heave. The way they played it for some reason had me thinking after the game and really until this morning that it was a true Hail Mary type situation, score a TD on the last play or lose the game. It wasn't
