FSU is a public university so our tax dollars support it. The buyout for Willy is reported to be around 17 million dollars and if they are to attract a top coach the payout for that could exceed the ridiculous amount they paid for Willie. I hate to think my tax dollars are supporting such idiotic behaviour realizing the government rarely considers costs. I will admit though, they should've kept Willie until his contract expired, agreed? :giggle:

See the article about the boosters. The money comes from them.

Private citizens paid for the buyout. Not exactly sure how money is allocated to state universities but I'm pretty sure tax payers are not paying for football coaches. These programs are way too profitable for that. Girls soccer, perhaps.

Athletic departments are generally not funded by tax dollars...they are supposed to be self-sufficient.

FSU got some money from the state when they rebuilt Doak back in the 90s, because they put their university administrative offices, several classrooms for various academic departments, and event facilities in the stadium. That made it a multi-use facility, which qualified for state support.

All state universities cap the salaries paid to coaches at somewhere around 250-300k, I think. Anything over that is paid for by boosters and various other contracts (like coaches' shows, endorsement deals, etc).
