they sure as **** wont be able to afford a good one after that buy out for a few years.

If they hire the Pirate, a bunch of their recruits could be enticed to stay. A lot depends on how Enos appears to work out. Jury is still out on him in the public mind, unfortunately.
 
It’s amazing their boosters raised $20 million to fire a coach, when their are starving children in Florida! They should have kept Taggart for 3 more years until we could beat FSU 3 more consecutive years! Just a thought!
 
FSU athletics brings in a ton of money. They also have a ton of expenses (have shown losses in recent years) and get a lot of revenue from “contributions” which I assume is boosters. They are losing the football facility arms race but will catch up in due time. Season ticket sales have fallen 4 years straight and don’t look to be coming up anytime soon.

The boosters are running the show here and will throw money around how they see fit. Personally I like that dynamic, it’s the college football equivalent of Dan Snyder.

For us fans them keeping Taggart 2 more years then blowing it up would have worked best but this is good for Miami too. Short of them getting Urban Meyer this sets the program back into a rebuild.

Taggart made his name as a rebuild guy. He also got FSU away from being dangerously close to academic probation (with someone else’s recruits). The next coach needs to gut the team of the poor attitudes that exist today and infuse a lot of talent into the offensive line. FSU has underperformed their talent level since Jimbo left and will continue to do so until the wannabes and bad apples are gutted from their team. Short term this should hurt their recruiting class and create some portal transfers out.

Taggart got 21 games to rebuild a program. Hopefully the next guy gets the same timeline. They could hire a great candidate like Fleck (and have to almost definitely guarantee an even larger buyout) and if they give him 21 games he will likely fail too.

They'll probably hire someone more in the realm of Leach, Gary Patterson, Memphis coach, Mark Stoops....
