Front 7

We're missing an elite pass rusher at DT. But Mullen's teams never give up many sacks because they use quick passes and the QB can run.

Not going to rack up sacks vs them. We should have had 2 more though

This.. 3 stop drop at the most and the back is out this loss ain't on the D..

I dont Think the linebackers played bad. We missed that motion of toney completely when he scored that td though. But where in the Fvck was our dline the whole night? That was ridiculous man. No pass rush AT ALL
The real question we should all be asking is how bad is Garvin? If he made Zion look like a starting LT all off-season than he may not even be power 5 caliber. I hope Zion went up against Patchan all year in practice. Maybe they kept it at half speed during practice and forgot to turn into high gear.

Garvin is overhyped. He looks the part, and like Joe Jackson before him, does not seem to have an array of moves. If he fails to speed rush past the tackle he doesn’t make a play. Hopefully, I am wrong.

Wtf are people talking about! Our dline played good enough to win this game! Creating turnovers, not allowing the qb to get comfortable and shutting down the run game! What more can we ask for......Basically they were 2 plays away from playing a perfect game......a play with missed tackling and a play with a blown coverage . I’m dam proud of our defense!

With all due respect, I think you are overreacting. Did you really think that Mullen was going to give our front 7 the opportunity to wreak havoc on his backfield? The very nature of Florida's offense does much to negate or neutralize a dominant front. They run a lot of tight formations and use a lot of misdirection in the running game. In the passing game they want to get rid of the ball quickly and to compound matters Frank's is a huge threat to cash you with the run if he breaks containment.

The 2 keys to overcoming that and put your DL in position to eat are #1 stop the run and #2 get a lead in order to get them out of their comfort zone and force them to throw. All things considered, the defense played very well all around and going forward I think we can expect to see this DL begin to gel and find their groove if you will. The DL along with the rest of the defense will be a strength throughout the year, getting better and better every week.

Now you do have a couple of notable points which I certainly agree with. First you are correct about Patchan and he is not UM starter level. Don't misunderstand me. Patchan is a good player and will continue to improve but he is a bit limited athletically. He is starting because he is a good player who knows the defense and this was the first game of the season. With more time, Trevon Hill will get into playing shape and most likely take over the starter role. There is also the continuing development of Greg Rousseau. You can see his talent jump off the screen and as the season goes on he will also get more and more playing time. We haven't even seen Harvey yet.

Your other point about not having anyone to replace Gerald Willis is also valid but again this is a situation where Ford, Silvera and Miller will continue to grow and develop as the season progresses. In my view we are in a very good position here going forward.
