From the perch

We run a very basic offense. Read the 2000 game throwback article and we ran so many of those same plays on the last drive that Richt ran at FSU.

I honestly believe it’s time for him to think about an actual OC.
It's been obvious since last season. When he expected a guy that couldn't hit the Willis tower 2 inches away. Too carry the offense like he was Warren Moon.

@LuCane i might open up some this week, but I also need to remember that I don’t know everything that goes into a play. You can make yourself look like a real idiot going too hard on a play if it ends up being a mistake by the player on the call.

Now, the predictability, the basic nature, the inability to really scheme guys open is something I believe to be true. Jeff Thomas catching one pass is borderline criminal. Just get him the ball, friends. Hand it to him if must. That pop pass out of motion is difficult to stop as well.

I’m frustrated, and frankly, angry right now. Lashing out and saying the angry things I want to say won’t help anything.

Mark Richt knows his performance was unacceptable and typical of his entire career. He doesn’t need me to say it for it to be true.

Don't think that is the case based upon his post game quotes.

I understand your approach. I once did play by play reviews here and on previous boards, so I get the need to remain objective and use a lot of appropriate qualifying language.

You have to know the playcall to judge the result of plays. You don’t have to know the playcall to see the route combinations and how we’re testing defenses.

I’m not encouraging you to say angry things. I’m extremely angry and I don’t think I’m ‘lashing out’ or hollering personal insults. Those are irrelevant and of no value to the board. Simply encouraging more opinion on the play by play review - especially as it relates to challenging the defense. Look forward to it.

Yeah, my post didn’t work apparently. My ending was frankly my attempt at being real towards Mark Richt, who has always been limited as a coach in my opinion and has been an underachiever.

It came across as if I was saying you were lashing out etc. when really I was intending to slam Richt, who absolutely deserved it and I saw this show coming so badly in this game.

That’s probably as harsh as I can get at this point.

OP, How do you do it... without jumping off a bridge by now....

You have the endurance of an Olympic marathoner..

Will be so much fun this week. 😑
I don't think I've ever less looked forward to do a film review on quarterbacks before. 😂

There was a reason why we brought up the staff needing to do some self scouting last week.

When you chart play after play your team starts to develop some obvious tendency. I think it got exposed a little tonight.

Back to drawing board canes fans. Won't be pretty but we will sort through the mess. Win or lose we at inSight got a job to do and we promise to evolve 😉

Do you guys know who from our staff is upstairs during games? Is it Jon Richt, Thomas Brown? I never pay attention to which one of those guys are on the sideline.

Probably Richt's second cousin who is having trouble finding a job right now, you know, since Miami is the Richt families personal job bank.

Anyways, both Jon Richt and Brown are on the field, so are Dugans, Searles, and Hartley.

So who tf is our eyes upstairs communicating with the OC (Richt) what the defense is doing?

And who’s the one that talks to Perry/Rosier when he goes to the sideline because it’s certainly not Mark Richt

Btw, prepare for a 3 game skid now.

We could possibly get blown out at BC even with a bye week to prepare. Duke is going to be a handful at home and a Mediocre VT probably beats us at their place. This is easily a 4-5 loss team.

This year the coastal was about as easy to take as ever and we are a really average team with a below average staff and a horrendous athletic department.

The football program will never win another title until we pay absolute top dollar for a staff which we can’t afford. The reign is over and has been over we as a fan base can’t choose to accept it. Some of the old fans will remain hoping we will return to prominence, but this day is were reality strikes and the fans gradually disappear for good,

RIP UM football. 😕

I watch offenses that are throwing 70+ yard touchdowns regularly from High school to the NFL out of the spread using misdirection, motion, and scheme. I turn on the canes game and it's like wtf with this basic offense

Let me help:

- we asked a young, jumpy QB to throw a handful of low percentage throws
- he blindly threw a seam route into a single high safety who’d already seen the same formation and route combo
- he overanticipated and tossed an awful 2nd INT
- we then pulled him for a QB who, despite being unable to throw an accurate ball, is placed in positions to throw 50/50 balls
- we blame the OL for most problems, but even when they hold their part of the bargain, there is rarely anyone running free
- we blame a Frosh OL for getting beaten on a 4th and short, yet the DL just slanted/guessed into the exact play we’ve run before
- we run vertical routes at defenses literally sprinting back expecting the routes
- we get man situations on the outside and run predictable dig routes at the sticks on 3rd down conversion situations
- please find us more than a handful of examples of WRs running free *across* the field
- we run timing-based routes when we know our OL doesn’t consistently allow for timing
- before the last drive, despite being led by an expert in crossing route concepts, we might have seen 2-3 pass plays inside the hashes
- we run the same ‘big shot’ plays in similar situations (example: half roll post route to a Thomas whenever we’ve needed a big play, QB draw inside the RZ from empty set)
- there’s more, but I’m nauseous

i can interpret you’re a really nice dude and hold back personal opinion at times so you can keep the reviews objective. I hope you take the gloves off this week.

Yep, all of this. I went to the game and I wanted to see first hand if there would be a lot of "WRs were running free all game long" kind of stuff and I did not see any of it. At times, sure, but for the most part, lots of it was defended pretty well. Then again, I'm sure it had a lot to do with the predictable nature of our playcalls. Heck, I could see it last night...

1st and 10: UVA usually put 8 (sometimes 9) guys in the box b/c they knew we were likely to run
2nd and long: UVA rushed 4 and sent 2 blitzers and dropping 5.
3rd and long: UVA rushed 4, occassional blitzer and dropped 5-6 into a zone

They were defending like this all game yet we barely adjusted to it.

Please headline this week’s column “Take an antacid and an aspirin and pour yourself a heavy three fingers before reading.”

Do not pull any punches, I know you won’t. You are doing God’s work, sir.
