From the Perch: Pitt

@Roman Marciante thanks for your work... would love to have a discussion abt Perry with you... I do believe that changes are needed as OC & QB coach, but doubt Mark that change... he is a stubborn man...

Let's talk Perry. What is up?

Just my observation, that Perry is not able to pick up on defense alignments at the LOS.. Is that inability a result of both poor coaching and not spending enough time watching film? When you watch a bunch of other qb's not just those in the playoff, but even those on lesser teams, it appears as though they have an idea of where to go with the ball from the snap, which is all about pre snap read.. Perry also appears to be very immature for a qb, that is from the FSU game, where he took a delay penalty at the end of the game cause he was too busy dancing on the field instead of getting the team to the LOS and getting the last snap...

Is film study the most important aspect for a qb development in order to "take that next step"? Perry has the arm.. I know we ran a simple offense, especially with routes, but Perry still missed some wide open receivers and threw into coverage more than a few times...

Need more out of that position on the whole. Offense was simplified with him in but ultimately a simple static offense actually can be harder to operate under.

2 years into this system I will say that it's very alarming in how many mirrored concepts we run, type of calls run, and the sheer over reliance on the same play on certain downs and distances over and over again.

It's a compounding problem. Very caustic. Don't trust a qb fully and simplify things with repetitive tendency, the simplification and repetitive tendency makes it harder for a qb to operate under.

All I know is, i'm not going to continue to roll out the plays I am and hand cuff myself even IF my qb isn't an expert at reading defenses yet.

Then as a staff imo you work overtime to simplify things yet stay diversified enough to help the cause. Check with me. Increased perimeter plays. Easy pre snap read identifiers. Stacks. Motions to help diagnose zone vs man.

Ultimately the staffs ideology to run a simple static offense with mirrored concepts was lazy. Yes. I said it. The qb could improve at reading coverage? Yes. The staff could implement more to help? Yes.

Lazy Is the word I’ve been using for a while now.
