Man this sounds crazy after how we all felt post SMU, but if Miami beats Indiana for the national championship next Monday, this team would be the greatest in program history.
Not because it is more talented than 2001. That roster is untouchable from an Hall of Fame and NFL standpoint. But because of what this team had to go through. Think about the road.
They beat Ohio State, the defending national champs with a loaded roster.
They would have beat an undefeated Indiana who are the Big Ten champions. Which many say is the best team since LSU 2019. They took down Ole Miss and Texas A&M, two of the top teams in the SEC.
That is the best of the Big Ten and the elite of the SEC, back to back to back to back. In today’s college football landscape, that is a gauntlet no Miami team has ever faced and survived. Think about it, we would have beat all of the top teams in college football.
What makes it even better is that half of us were ready to cancel the season after the SMU loss. We were frustrated, disappointed, questioning everything, and now this same “flawed” team is one win away from a national title.
They might not have the most first rounders or Hall of Famers. But if they finish this run, this will be the toughest, most battle tested, most earned championship in Miami history. I will be happy to call them the best team in program history.
