Freshman QBs

Jayden Daniels went 15/24 284yds 2TD's & 0INT's
Hank Bachmeier went 30/51 407yds 1TD & 1INT
Sam Howell went 15/24 245yds 2TD's & 0INT's
Bo Nix went 13/31 177yds 2TD's & 2INT's

The common thread was, despite being True Freshman making their first start they all threw it down the field when they needed it to.

Jarren is a Red Frosh but made his first start as well, he'll be fine, he just needs to take more risks & not be afraid of making a mistake. INT's are inevitable, they're going to happen, every single great QB that has ever lived has thrown them, Jarren just has to trust it when it's there & let the ball go.
Thing is, throwing to guys running wide open isn't much of a risk. I do believe it CAN be fixed, but if it isn't we have a real coaching problem. Either that or we have some of the most mentally handicapped QBs on the planet. Jarren does not strike me as a mental midget, at all, so in my opinion it's all on the coaches. Here's hoping they get it fixed, because I, along with everyone else here, am tired of our QBs looking like they can't make plays most other QBs can.

Totally agree, I would much rather you take shots and give our players a chance, than play it safe like Bentley, a senior who consistently throws it to his backs on outlets. Don't be scared to take shots, but don't be dumb and throw it into double /triple coverage lol

Boise St QB beats FSU on the road in first start
UNC QB beats South Carolina at neutral site in first start
Auburn QB beats #11 Oregon at neutral site in first start.
All three had numerous instances where they held the ball too long. The difference? They didn't have defensive linemen or blitzing LB in their face before they can set up. You can't under estimate the impact of that on the decision making of an inexperienced QB.

When the clock speeds up for Jarren and he adjusts, we're good.

If he put up Nix like numbers and beat the crocs last week, then yeah, we would all be applauding him.

Winning is what matters.
There is winning because of, and winning in spite of. Auburn didn't win because of Nix. His poor play is a large part of why they were in trouble to begin with.

I love how some CIS phans clamour JW15 has no instinct or feel for the game.

After one not-so-great but not-so-terrible performance with a subpar supporting cast, in a new system, with new coaches.
Exactly. It's a team sport. If Thomas doesn't muff the punt and we win the game, would Jarren's performance suddenly be viewed better by those bashing him and bringing up the winning freshmen qbs, even though his performance would be exactly the same as it was in the loss? We didn't lose because of Jarren and Auburn didn't win because of Nix.

Yea Bo is a bad example. Does anyone really want that performance? Yea it was a great drive down in the last 2 minutes but Whitlow carried Auburn. They were just forced to pass. Even Malzahn started depending on the run because Bo was struggling. All that being said, Bo had heart. His performance tonight was equivalent to Perry’s FSU performance last year.

If JW throws 2 Interceptions like Bo - we’re dead in the water VS UFag. We get pummeled. If he completes less than 50% of his passes, we’re dead in the water. Bro, again, if our WRs/TEs just catch the ball, JW looks like a stud.

I wish people would just do the basic math. What does 5(?) more receptions and another TD look like for JW?

I think Bo’s performance was trash. Not like Perry’s at all, IMO. Perry was less than 50% passing, but he threw FOUR TDs and didn’t turn it over. The NO turnovers part gave us a chance to come back.

I get that.

All I’m saying is that he connected on the plays that mattered at the end. He’s 1-0 as a starter. That’s how the stat lines reads. It doesn’t mean he’s gonna be great.

Yea you’re right. I was looking at the completion percentage concerning Bo & Perry. I believe anything below 60 is mediocre and anything below 50 is horrible. However, you’re right. Bo was turning that ball over. We get murdered if JW put up Bo’s numbers. Oregon also has a very suspect secondary. Against UF, JW didn’t have that luxury.

Exactly.

Teams found a way to win in spite of their lack of experience at QB. As stated, context and nuance matter in each game from my OP. My overall point, however, is that the excuse of age and starts isn’t a valid reason to not win a game. Other teams found ways to win.

Our game was a combo of so many things just like the other games mentioned, but at the end of the day you’ve got to find a way to win with what you have. I feel like we have consistently failed to do so. There is always an excuse that someone is young or not ready when other teams find ways to make it work.

Did anyone even watch those games, including our own? Nix dropped a terrible performance and Howell looked poor beyond read 1 with plenty of time to throw for much of the game. There certainly was no jameis Winston type of entrance that’s for sure

Once again -- rewatch the game sober- TD pass should have been picked off -- Dline won that game in SPITE of their QB
Never once said they won because of him at all but the kid showed some poise and toughness at 18 in his first game with the world watching I can't **** on that or say he's going to be a star
