Jack Allison arrived at Miami in January as an early enrollee and has adjusted rather quickly in Coral Gables. The freshman quarterback is currently in a battle with Evan Shirreffs for the backup spot.

Shirreffs and Allison have become good friends since Allison stepped on campus. Shirreffs might have the upper hand right now due to his redshirt season last year. Their friendship helps to push the two harder, according to Allison.

“We definitely encourage each other. We know we’re competing and we’re competitors, but at the end of the day we’re still cheering each other on. It’s definitely friendly,” Allison said.

Back in June, Brad Kaaya flew to Arizona with David Njoku and freshman QB Jack Allison to work with Kaaya’s QB instructor Rudy Carpenter and former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Kurt Warner.

“It was really cool. His knowledge of the game is unreal, so to soak everything up from him was awesome,” said Allison. “Rudy just told me to continue to mature and learn the playbook. Anyone can throw well, but not everyone can have the mind for football.”

Mark Richt’s fit with Brad Kaaya has been discussed at length, but Richt’s hiring could prove to be great for Allison as well.

“I’m definitely a pro-style quarterback. The offense he’s put in, I can do it and I’ve learned it pretty well I think. I think it’s a great fit,” he said.

Allison shared his thoughts on the newcomers at receiver – Ahmmon Richards, Sam Bruce, and Dayall Harris.

“All three of those guys are great playmakers and have been making plays all camp. Ahmmon is just so fast and smooth with his routes. Sam is unreal with his routes and Dayall is a little bit older, but he’s smooth and fast and can beat you deep,” the freshman QB Allison said.
