West Palm Beach (FL) Royal Palm Beach High School OL Fred Johnson has seven offers: UM, Marshall, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Florida, Tennessee and Purdue.
And the former Hokie commitment (he says he hasn't ruled out Virginia Tech) says he has a clear top choice - Miami.
"They're at the top, No. 1 on my list," the 6-foot-8, 288-pounder said. "When I went down there for the (summer) camp and just talking to coaches, overall I fit well with the program."
Johnson says he landed the Cane offer a month ago.
So which program is No. 2 on his list?
"I don't really know," Johnson said. "The rest are just ... all I know is Miami's at the top and the rest I have to think about it."
Johnson has set up his Miami official visit for Jan. 16.
"That's the only one I know so far," he said.
Johnson says he doesn't have an announcement date picked out "but it'll be before signing day."
The chance the Canes have of signing him as of now?
"70 percent," Johnson says.
Coach Jethro Franklin is his primary recruiter.
"He talks about the school with me, how things are going, stuff with recruiting," Johnson said. "He says how I'd fit into their program. He's a cool guy, everybody is cool down there."
Johnson's teammate is Charles Perry, a solid Cane commitment who is arriving on campus next month.
"He told me everything is good down there, said he had a fun time on his visit (earlier this month), that it's like family down there," Johnson said.
Johnson played left tackle in high school and expects to play the same spot at the next level.
This was his first year starting.
"I went out for the team my freshman year but stopped, then came back my junior year but didn't play in a game, was my backup because I was still new to the game," Johnson said.
