Frank Gore - possible last game on Sunday

Every season around this time people start saying it’s probably Gore’s last game.

I’ll believe it when it happens.

Well he’s been reduced to strictly a short yardage guy.

Last week was the first time in his career he didn’t get a carry.

He played 5 snaps.

I think this is probably it.

Gore is noticeably worse than last season. He started the season fine then seemed to get old in a hurry. His yards per carry are a career low and the most recent 3 games none of them were above 1.5 YPC. Six of his last 7 games have been below 2.5 YPC. Even though it has been short yardage situations there have been runs with gaps available yet Gore didn't get there in time.

It's not inconceivable that he could get some rest and still have something left in the playoffs, like Gronkowski on fumes last season. But in the past couple of months I've been thinking it's likely the end for him.

Prior to his knee injuries, he was a man among boys (even on a team loaded with first round talent). As a Freshman, he was electric to watch and he averaged almost 10 yards per carry. You could tell he was something special. Frank doesn't get nearly as much credit as he should.

As a fan, it's one of my greatest regrets that we didn't get to see a healthy, pre-injury version of Frank Gore throughout his UM career and in the NFL. Had he remained healthy & been part of the right NFL teams, he could well be in first place on the all-time yardage gained list. What he's done post-injuries is nothing short of amazing. Sure fire HOFer. Great Cane & a really good person.

Didn’t get a carry last week and might be inactive for the Playoffs.

Bills are locked into the 5th seed so this game is meaningless for them.

Might be his swan song.

What a career, if so.

Before his knee injuries, his running reminded me of Gale Sayers.

Freddie Miles......
1 Freddie Miles
2 Frank Gore
3 Noel Devine...
Miles was definitely#1. Same graduating class, Buster Rhymes was a fvickin stud too. Hard to bring down. Manchild. But, Miles was on another level. Miles couldn't get out of his own way off the field unfortunately. Got caught up in some stupid **** and never seemed to find his way out.
Gore is knee injuries away from being even higher up on that NFL list.

@caneinorlando @nystateofmind I had never heard of Freddie Miles (before my time). Here's a good article on him. Pretty tragic. He went from signing an LOI with Howard in 1979--which would've put him on the '83 national title team--to not being able to play college football at all and ending up homeless and destitute. Crazy! Frank Gore was lucky that he had teachers to work with him and his learning disability. He remains the greatest back I ever saw play.

I read that a few yrs ago....In 79 Freddie was the #1 Ranked HS RB in America....over Hershall Walker...Bo Jackson and Marcus Dupree...

Gore - 3.6 YPC
Singletary - 5.1 YPC
Both good backs. But Frank gets his carries at the end of the game when they're running out the clock and the defense knows it's a run precisely because he doesn't turn it over. Hence the lower average. But I agree. This could be the end of the line, but don't think they'll sit him for the playoffs.

It's one of those cases where a chance injury kept a great player from being the greatest. The simple fact that he kept coming back and us still playing is a testament to the man's work ethic.

While we’re on the subject, did anyone see Frank Gore Jr. play for Killian? I was surprised that he signed with lowly Southern Miss, but then I saw his height and weight numbers. How good of a back is he?

Frank would be the only back in cane history to break 2000 yards had he played in 2002 instead of Willis.

Might play slot WR. At least he went D-1. He’s just small.
