With two of the top 2027 prospects from the Yellowhammer state already committed to Miami in the form of Ai’King Hall and Jatori Williams, the Canes are continuing to make inroads in Alabama. One of the more underrated prospects this cycle, Spain Park DL Marquis Evans has generated plenty of interest from the Hurricanes. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound lineman visited during the Spring where he mentioned Miami’s presence in his recruitment process, and spoke to me for CanesInSight following his OV with the Canes.
Overall visit thoughts:
“I think everything went smoothly, I feel like a priority here. I got to sit down and talk with Coach Taylor in-depth — I learned a lot, my family loved it.”
“I love the events we did like the speedboat tour, everything was great here.”
On conversations with the coaching staff:
“With Coach Taylor we went through a whole walk through, talking about pass rush stuff, and he broke out in a whole sweat.”
“Coach Cristobal, got a great talk with him one-on-one just letting me know how much of a priority I am. And I know he truly means that being a former O-line coach because he puts an emphasis on the trenches.”
“Cristobal told me Jatori [Williams] wants me here.”
On his fit in Miami’s defensive scheme:
“I think it's a perfect fit for me, the way I play and the way I'm looking to develop.”
“The style of play is like how Reuben [Bain] played and that’s how I see myself, it’s really impressive.”
On his recruitment timeline:
“[I still have to visit] Auburn next week, Florida and then South Carolina.”
“[I’m going to commit] after my last official visit, but no later than July 1st.”
On the other schools in his recruitment process:
“Auburn, close to home, new coaching staff — they're on the rise right now. They got something new so it's interesting to see what they got going on.”
“Tennessee, you can't argue with the development that Coach Garner has had. Coach Heupel put an emphasis on my family, he made sure to spend time with each and every one of us, even my siblings.”
“Florida, I know I’ll get developed there as well as they got somebody new coming in.”
“South Carolina, they were my first offer and they have been great since day one.”
