With Tre Moore’s commitment to UW and cancelling of his Miami visit earlier this week, it meant the only uncommitted prospect on Miami’s second OV weekend was tight end Anthony Cartwright. A 6-foot-5, 235-pounder who’s Michigan’s top tight end prospect this cycle, Cartwright has already made the trip down to Coral Gables on multiple occasions with the Hurricanes “high” on his radar.
With three official visits (LSU, Michigan State, Stanford) already under his belt this summer, the four-star broke down his Miami official visit with me for CanesInSight.
Overall visit recap:
“I felt wanted, I was the only uncommitted recruit here so they were trying to persuade me all weekend.”
“Definitely one of my top three schools for sure.”
On his relationship with tight ends coach Mike Viti:
“Coach Viti and I talked a lot of ball, got to hang out with coach Cristobal and the other commits so I was really feeling the love from everybody, even the parents.”
“(We) have built a great relationship even in the short amount of time he’s been here. He’s a guy I know I can get developed by and make it to the next level.”
“He’s straightforward with his film and what he does. It’s really easy to learn that way.”
On head coach Mario Cristobal:
“Coach Cristobal you already know, he’s been recruiting me for like two years now so our relationship is very strong.”
“His attitude is very passionate, he wakes up with energy everyday. He’s great on and off the field and I think he can be one of the best coaches.”
On spending time with Miami’s 2027 commits:
“I definitely felt the love, they kept saying ‘make the class number one,’ trying to get me to commit.”
“Especially Israel Abrams, I spent time with him. He kept saying ‘you know you’re a safety blanket so you’re going to get the rock’.”
On scheme fit with UM:
“I believe that they plan to use me as a very versatile tight end. They showed me on film their plan and it’s very versatile which I like.”
On his overall recruitment timeline:
“Committing on June 28th, trying to see if it's a scheme I fit into, if it's a place I can live — [Miami] checks all those boxes for sure.”
"With these last ones, it's about seeing the environment and the brotherhood."
