Forum Update Tonight

I have nothing to complain about.... You're doing a fine job Andrew...

While I love the effort at Board improvement, @Andrew , I'm not sure that the search function has really been improved.

For instance, we used to be able to search posts. Now the results include our DMs, with no chance to differentiate (such as with "search DMs only", "search posts only", "search both", etc.).

And is there any chance we can search BY THREAD? For instance, if we wanted to find something on Gator Tears, could we ONLY search Gator Tears with a pull-down?

Finally, I know that the search is not producing all of the results that it could/should. I tried a generic pair of words like "Miami Clemson" and it gave me only 4 pages of results, and all but about 4-5 results were from my DMs. I know I've mentioned those two schools and games and recruiting more than just 4-5 times.

Good luck with the ongoing work!
By default search is set to everything but you have the following options depending on the page:

Within a forum: Everywhere, Threads, This forum
Within a thread: Everywhere, Threads, This forum, This thread
Direct message list: Everywhere Direct messages
Within a direct message: Everywhere, Direct messages, This direct message
Articles index or page: Everywhere, Articles
Media index: Everywhere, Media, Comments
Media category: Everywhere, Media, Comments, Media (this category)
Media: Everywhere, Media, Comments, Media (this category), Comments (this media item)

You can search within the Gator Tears thread by selecting "This thread". As far as search results there is currently a bug with rebuilding search so a lot of search results are missing for posts. We hope to have this fixed within the next week but are waiting on a Xenforo update.

Some of this is accurate, some of this is contextual.

For instance, searching on a thread...this depends on where you start from. If you are not ALREADY in a thread, then when you hit search, you just get a generic search:

I tried the exact same thing WHILE IN A SPECIFIC THREAD (Gator Tears, of course), and you are correct, there is now a pull-down choice that is not present when you are in other places on the board:

So FROM THIS POINT, which I believe most people use, I can see where you can change "Everywhere" to "Threads" and "This Forum" and "This Thread". To go farther than that, you need "Advanced Search".

Now, from "Advanced Search" there are some choices at the top (not sure if they were all there previously). Interestingly, if you then choose "Search threads", it allows you to search by "Prefixes" and "Forums", but it does not allow you to search by actual thread names.

So, sure, I can see where a person can cobble something together by using either the "basic" search or the "Advanced search", and that is certainly appreciated. Again, I'm not sure if some components are a part of the most recent update or not.

But regardless, I know quite well that (at least pre-update) the OLD "search" did not include DM results. Maybe that is new, or maybe a default changed, but I know for a fact when I used to search for things, it didn't give me my own DMs.

I appreciate the ongoing effort to improve the board and its functionality, I just noticed a change in OUTCOME prior to noting any changes in the format or choices afforded to us in the new version.

Take care, and keep up the good work.

The generic search is search everything so it includes all search categories. The only category that is new is DMs. You should only get the generic search when on a non-specific page like forum list or trending. Advanced search has always existed.

If you are in a forum then you have the option to search for a thread in the forum or threads. You can search for thread titles by clicking the "Search titles only" checkbox.

What is specifically missing right now is a bulk of the post. I was able to rebuild all other search types but the posts rebuild job is not correctly setting a batch size and therefore throws a memory error.
