I haven't posted much on this site for various reasons but now feel comfortable doing so. Take this for what it's worth but I'm still fairly connected to the program.

I had a great conversation with a fellow alumni about the coaching search and he's very buddy buddy with Dimare, Miller and even Blake James.

The prominent alumni want Butch or Chud but would love to have Butch as head coach and Chud as OC/head coach in waiting. Cristobal isn't being mentioned as a legit candidate as consensus is he doesn't have enough experience as a CEO at this high of a level. He would only end up as head coach if we struck out on all candidates which doesn't seem to be an issue this time around.

Regarding Butch, as you know there's a ton of support from all aspects of our program, alumni, fans, and players alike. The only reason why Butch isn't our coach right now is due to a couple issues that aren't too much concerned with the UNC investigation. First, the night before he took the Cleveland job he was approached by the Board of trustees regarding the job offer. Butch explicitly stated he wouldn't leave but Cleveland came back offering complete control over the Browns management including player personnel and other aspects of the job.

This has left a bad taste in the mouths of 3-4 prominent BOT members. It sounds entirely ego-oriented and if they can get past that Butch is our guy.

Blake James will have ultimate authority in this hire but it sounds like he will be heavily guided by the BOT. A decision won't be made until Korn Ferry has come back with there search recommendations.

As far as salary goes, I have also heard that 4 million will be available with plenty of money for the right staff. The BOT and Blake James understands the scope of this hire and it appears that they will truly aim high with this coaching search, coordinators included.

As a bonus, the fellow alumni is having a meeting with Blake James and is strongly urging him to take a look at the best available coaches we can afford. I mentioned Tom Herman and talked to him about it and he is going to bring him up in the meeting. He also agreed that Butch is the ultimate hire for this program and I agree with him, but if all else fails Herman is the type of savage we need to win here.

We're going to end up with Charlie Strong and we're going to remain irrelevant. There is no reason for us to expect anything positive when it comes to the football program. Thank God we have Coach L.

Herman and Butch are both good choices, in different ways. I'd love Herman, but Butch is certainly not even comparable likes of Strong, Wario, and Schiano, he blows those clowns out of the water. Shoot for the stars.

Thanks for your contribution to the program and for this post as well.
Anyways, Chud returning to UM as an assistant coach, even with the HCIW designation, makes ZERO sense as
he can easily land a coordinator job in the NFL next year.
Not sure why that is even being thought about or mentioned.

Also to add: the most encouraging thing I heard in this conversation was that UM is shooting to be in the top 10 nationally on overall coaching salary, ( head coach, coordinators, position coaches combined). This could put us in contention for an all star type of staff.

That's where we should be.

Just pray to Allah, Jesus, Buddha, whoever you have faith in, that we don't hire Scrong.

I will believe it when I see it.

Some of these BOT clowns have to get over themselves. The guy left for the NFL for Christsake. And some bozos are still butthurt over it? People leave. Mario left. Herman left where he was coaching. Holy ****.

Brother, we all can't agree on everything. I appreciate TK, because all Butch threads are good threads.

This.....wtf?? They act like Butch was porking their wives. So it's ok to leave your alma mater after being offered a job when you've been fired but it's not ok to leave for the NFL when you're being disrespected on a BS contract? LOL

Lots of general information there. Seems like the same non-specific stuff we've been hearing. How about finding out some of the 40 names that Korn Fairy came up with?

I'd be honored if Butch ever porked my wife.

Careful what you wish for. He banged mines, and she hasn't walked since. This man pack a wallop.

I don't get why Butch leaving for an NFL job after the adminstration ****ed around with him over his contract is so unforgiveable but Mario leaving to take a lateral job 2 weeks after UM created a job for him is seemingly no big deal at all. Also, why would Chud leave the NFL for anything other than a HC job?
