Former NFL player lawsuits on any serious injury including brain (feed back)

But wasn't this happening WELL BEFORE these guys got to the NFL? High school coaches use to tell me the same thing. I would literally see stars and hear ringing but as long as I could see their two fingers, I was good to go. So why not go after the NCAA or former high schools since I'm pretty sure the brain trauma started prior to them making it to the NFL.

Good point..

Thank You!!
I've been saying this for YEARS.

Why isn't this taken seriously at the Pop Warner/Rec League levels?

I remember rec league practices where we were hitting so hard guys helmet screws were popping out. It was concussion city every practice.

I had so many concussions in high school it wasn't even funny. The crazy thing is, I always hurt the most on the shots I delivered

Its football tho. Itll never go away.

Advances in medicine and technology have led to the increased awareness not only in CTE but in many other areas of society. When I played optimist football, I took great pride as a rover safety in hitting an opponent as hard as possible - several times having to shake my head to get rid of the cob webs. We didn't know any better - or worse for that matter. The smoking and Nascar analogies are great examples of how knowledge and technology have increased safety in those respective arenas. Yes, we now are more keenly aware of the "risks" associated with playing the game we all love. Players at all levels are more aware of the risks and willingly accept those risks to participate in the game they love. Why not use all the knowledge, technology, and experience at our disposal to make the game safer? Another factor I believe contributes to this dilemma is that players are bigger, faster, and stronger than ever increasing the impact during a "hit". Sorry for being soo long winded!

No need to apologize. While we're on the subject matter, can we blame the media as well? Have they not glorified the hard hits? Now they are trying to thumb their nose at the sport??! It's no different then boxing...why did everyone love Mike Tyson? B/c he knocked out opponents.

ESPN used to have a segment called "jacked up." ABC use to have a segment called "hardest hits" right after MNF. So if you have kids, like myself, growing up watching guys like Lott, Atwater, Lake, Jackson, etc. being idolized for their ferocious hits, guess what I'm going to do? I'm trying to take out a player, too, like my glorified idol. The media has played a big role in how the game is played. ****, even NFL films would glorify Butkus, Nitschke, Nighttrain, Deacon, etc. running through folks in the 60's...so what impact do you think that had on the next generation?

I'm glad they are trying to improve the game, but the fact is, it's a collision sport. Just like some NBA players will have knee and back problems when retired, no matter how far shoe technology have come or boxers having head problems no matter how cushioned gloves have become, football players run the risk of suffering CTE b/c it's a contact sport. Not every player will fall victim to it, but b/c it's a collision sport, it's a risk that's run.

****, I've got knee and back issues from pounding concrete for over 40 years! All kidding aside, couldn't agree with you more about the media. They try and glorify ANY situation to increase their ratings. Even soccer has gotten attention for CTE due to headers and kicks to the head. Not to downplay the risks of playing football, but sitting at a desk all day without getting exercise has it's risks. We know this because of the tremendous advancements in medicine and technology.

Because when you sue for money, you go after the guy who actually has the most money to pay out.

Exactly. That’s y I’m low key ****ed at the lawsuit and the media coverage. The narrative that the NFL “caused” these guys to have CTE is b.s. The trauma began at the pop warner stage. It was proliferated at the high school, GUARANTEED, yet no one wants to talk about that. They only want to talk about the Billion Dollar Giant.

Well since everybody sues everybody in all this why don't prior to every football game a disclaimer / warning flash before and after every commercial "WARNING DO NOT TRY THIS IT COULD BE, ALLEGEDLY ,MAYBE ,POSSIBLY AND PERHAPS BE DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" and do like pharmaceutical advertisements they spend most of the commercial telling U the possible side affect for 10 minutes after telling U how great it is for the first 30 seconds.

Rugby doesn't use helmets , I wonder if they have the same issues , I wouldn't be surprised if they DON'T.

It doesn't take rocket science to know if U bang your head it will"hurt" and if U constantly do it something bad would eventually happen.

Do U know if U stick your hand on a hot stove it will hurt and if U keep doing U will get your hand burned off.

Is there some reason YOU use U all the time? It seems you are trying to cast it is a bad light. U should only be used in the context of THE U, not some devious or lazy reason. Around here that letter in caps is like the name of God in Old Testament. Treat lightly my friend, this is Hollowed ground.
