forget the swag, just gimme a tough nosed team

Laughable !! We got MC for all this toughness and the prime ex is Utes who dominated twice who?? MCs signature team …. Now we want to be like the stick figure u??? It’s going 2 b a loooong offseason.
please go back and let me know where i said i want our team to be a carbon copy of the utah utes ... i did however say i wanted a hard nosed discipline team that competes ...

Oh, you’ve got better things to do than wait around while our team spends 2-3 years getting to 11 wins and a major bowl? Other than force out another coach and endure more misery, what pray tell would you rather do?
Not me, I was talking about the fanbase in general, I'm pretty patient tbh and I would be very ok with that.

It doesn't have to be all one or the other. Fun can coexist with disciplined play. Our history proves that. You just have to be led by someone who understands both and is more practical and flexible than ideological. JJ was good at it.

Btw- Justin Medlick, the lb from Texas that decommitted when Mario was hired, signed with Utah…
wow ... i think we find guys, just can't ever seem to get them in the right system to flourish or better yet put them in the right position, especially defensively

Tough is good. Tough and talented better. I don’t want us to become three yards and a cloud of dust.

i'm watching utah and other less talented teams play and id do anything just to have a disciplined hard nosed team that plays physical ... keep the rings, the jewelry and all that other stuff ... show up consistently and compete ... if we somehow could do that the rest would take care of itself

that is all
Bingo!!!

Yeah, the fans (I'm looking at you, most of CIS) won't wait, and it's kinda ****ing me off. Anybody who says we should be patient is immediately shot down as being a p*ssy who settles for mediocre. Same goes if you think winning the Coastal might be a good goal for next year. Think 10 wins is a nice step in the right direction? You're a beta loser. I'm hoping people will give Mario more time than we've given past coaches because if he can't win here, we might as well close up shop. He's not the greatest coach, but he's got the tools and experience to do the job. If we boot him before he gets it figured out, we can forget ever getting back to greatness. I'm no Mario slurper, but that's just some facts.

I was going to make an OP detailing why patience is needed. We are a rebuild. We’ve had a f’d up culture, & while we have some nice pieces, we have holes on this roster. I think it’s a 2 yr job, honestly, meaning yr 1, we’ll look disjointed, qualifying for lower tier’d bowl game, & by yr 2, we’ll be in the ACCCG.

Here’s the facts:

Jimmy J: 8-5 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr
Saban: 7-6 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr
Richt: 8-4 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr (UGA)
Richt: 9-4 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr (Miami)
Carroll: 6-6 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr
Aranda: 2-7 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr
Cristobal: 9-4 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr
Kiffin: 5-5 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr
Smart: 8-5 1st yr / 10+ wins 2nd yr

I mean, I’m just going off the dome right now, and I know they’re plenty more examples. Are there some anomalies like Erickson or Coker coming right in, & winning Immediately? Sure, but they both took over programs that were jobbed out of a Nat’l title the yr prior. When u’re taking over a rebuild, u’ll usually see it take anywhere between 2-3 yrs. Anything outside of 3 in today’s CFB, u should be worried.

We all (by now) agree that Manny was style over substance. Gimmicks over fundamentals. I totally agree with OP that I'd rather lock up the jewelry and the "U invented Swag T's" until they're earned in the blood and sweat and dirt. The results we want may take a couple of years, but I do expect to see a different culture Day 1. A culture shift that will eventually earn the swag. Also:
1) Miami will never not attract skill positions
2) Mario can fill the trenches
3) The kids this year never gave up, which is something exciting to build on

It's gonna be a long off-season.

Yeah, if year 3 doesn’t look legit, I think even the most optimistic among us should be worried. Until then, there will be growing pains and that’s ok.

You need coachable kids, not just great athletes - that's how less talented teams compete. You need a coach to coach them and not allow the inmates to run the asylum. And, fans need to see progress- not Miami's hallmark tendency of 'one step forward, two steps back.'

Miami put a premium on athletics and not so much on coachability. By the time we got what was left in Dade / Broward, no matter the stars, we mostly ended up with those passed by the top programs' evals. Then people on here wonder why there was no player development two or three years in.

Exhibit a disciplined brand of football and win, and we start moving up the food chain for the best recruits - not just in S Fl, but around the country.

“Swag” is being hard nosed

The fact that kids on our team don’t know that is exactly what the problem is

We can do both.
