With the amount of northern transplants growing daily I’d imagine the market is there. That's like wanting to grow bananas in the Arctic. Point Barrow.

Also next to my old high school in palm beach gardens Wayne Gretzky is gonna have hockey camps at the new state of the art hockey facility! I liked hockey growing up just never quite watched as much as now! Panthers babay! With the amount of northern transplants growing daily I’d imagine the market is there.
Couldn't we have a women's field hockey? The question is whether he will help find the money to build a hockey complex on or near campus, you likely can't use the Watsco Center for that. It's talk, talk that doesn't make an iota of sense. For Miami to add a D1 hockey program, we will likely need to also fund a women's hockey program too, in order to stay Title IX compliant. We'd be better off trying to build a softball program, that's a sport Miami would be able to dominate...
Also, serious question because I know nothing about hockey...why can't you use the Watsco Center for hockey? I'm curious since so many professional arenas are used for both basketball and hockey. Would have to be completely rebuilt? The question is whether he will help find the money to build a hockey complex on or near campus, you likely can't use the Watsco Center for that. There’s no way you could fit a regulation rink in there. It barely fits a basketball court as is…Also, serious question because I know nothing about hockey...why can't you use the Watsco Center for hockey? Ah, I didn't realize hockey rinks were so much larger than basketball courts. Actually, I didn't realize they were larger than basketball courts at all until you said this. There’s no way you could fit a regulation rink in there. It barely fits a basketball court as is…
They have one of if not the lowest spectators in the league and constantly lose money.Growing daily? This place is nothing but northern transplants for the past 125 years (except for our friends from the big island south of us and Central & South America). It's simply a matter of when they came.
The market is definitely here. The Panthers have been around for over 30 years now and have had a devoted following through 25 years of really crappy years. Fast sport and violent, what's not to like?
I think the biggest issue is the closest D1 school is near St. Louis, MO. Does the school want to get in a sport where the closest competition is like 1,200 miles away?
Somehow here in Tampa the Lightning have been selling out for years. It's an easy and great night out. Wasn't always that way though. Would much rather have other sports (softball, lacrosse) than hockey though at UM. I could care less about college hockey. They have one of if not the lowest spectators in the league and constantly lose money.
The Northern transplants are old and aren't consistent viewers. They may go to one year.
Florida is a tough market for hockey.
