Everyone wanted to run Butch out of Miami years one through six, but he eventually got things turned around and championship-caliber.

That's not to say Diaz will succeed, or won't—but comparing a first year head coach to a guy a quarter-century past his inaugural season is off-base.

Great, an old dog had one last trick in his bag—and got a win over the inexperienced guy who hasn't found his legs yet. There's still a reason no one has touched Davis with a ten-foot pole since Cleveland—outside of a North Carolina program ready to run rogue in building a football program; which ultimately blew up in everyone's faces.

Big openings in college football over the last several years; Tennessee, Davis' alma mater Arkansas, LSU, Georgia, Texas, Auburn—even Florida and Florida State, who Davis out-recruited and eventually beat soundly when he got Miami back .... even they never gave him a look. Something stinks with the guy.

Personally, I wanted him back over Richt as he could've helped change the culture and recruit back some talent, setting a better stage for an eventual replacement—but that ship has since sailed. (Would be in his fourth year here if hired end of 2015.) Agree with you that he would've been a more than serviceable Band-Aid—but it's ludicrous to compare Diaz as first-year guy to other veterans out there.
 
We lost to Hamstring U who stink in their own terrible conference. No excuses will be accepted for this one. It was absolute coaching malpractice.

Fact: Butch Davis never lost a bowl game while Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes.
To me that shows a coach who given time knows how to prepare and motivate his team.
Manny get's his *** whooped after every bye week, that shows me a coach who does not know how to prepare and motivate his team.

He's lost by double digits outright as 7+ favorite this season, has 3 losses of 28 or more, 1 as a 3 pt. underdog, and one as a favorite, and the other as an 11 pt. dog vs. an okay but nothing special rival FAU team. Basically none that on paper he should have been non-competitive in and he got boat raced

You realize that Howard Schnellenberger once he left UM - NEVER won crap in college again - at lesser schools? Same guy. No more National Championships - not even in the vicinity!

You realize that Dennis Erickson once he left UM - NEVER won crap in college again - at lesser schools? Same guy that won two National Championships?

You realize that Clappy once he left UM - NEVER won crap in college again - at lesser schools? Same guy that won a National Championship - but never again came even close.

Wanna know why?

Schnelly recruited on his own - finished on his own - and left JJ with some good players with the right mindset, who were tough.

JJ relied heavily on Butch to do his evaluations and recruiting - JJ knew Butch was that good, and Butch loved recruiting. So JJ's teams were heavily evaluated and recruited by Butch Davis.

JJ"s team was handed over to Erickson - who won a National Championship his first year - with JJ's team (evaluated and recruited by Butch Davis).

Butch went on to win a Super Bowl as DC, and returned to a tanked program, 31 lost scholarships - and evaluated and recruited for himself - putting together the greatest college team of all time.

HE in turn handed his team over to Clappy - who won a National Championship HIS first year - with Butch's team. And then the program tanked as Butch's players graduated.

And here we are today. Suckingass.

Butch Davis is a gutless unprincipled lowlife. I finally watched the FIU tape yesterday. How are those flops not atop every sportscast, with Davis condemned as a disgrace to his profession? That was light years more low class than the Gator Flop, a game which I attended.

Manny Diaz should have marched across the field after the third flop and planted his finger in Butch Davis' face. Stay there until you're **** sure Sportscenter will spotlight for a week. Everything was obviously orchestrated from the top, with countless people in the program aware and participating. One of the female injury attendants was visibly laughing as she feigned need to treat the player.

Two was insulting to the sport. Once the coach doesn't get the hint or have any semblance of decency and it reaches three, then that needs to be the focus of the nation. Miami may be reeling short term but Butch Davis has zero integrity. I've seen countless losses as 20 point favorite but never has anything threatened a fourbagger of pure corrupt stench. And all to save time outs. That was the only hilarious aspect. I remember when Butch Davis was so clueless as Canes coach there would be at least 6 people on the Canes sideline frantically screaming for time out before it ever dawned on Butch Davis.

The demographics here explain the low shout rate. We're in an era where SAMs believe the end justifies any means. Every prior argument is thrown out or unabashedly reversed, if our side is benefitting. I do acknowledge that if Butch Davis or anyone in that FIU program were called upon to testify or cooperate, then Davis would be too petrified to do so and likewise insist that all his colleagues be equally deceptive and yellow.

The history books laugh at strategic avoidance and always get it right. Once rules are adjusted to account for penalties of this type, the nickname will carry an FIU tag and Butch Davis remembered as the swine.

Maybe OP is right. Butch hasn’t created any 305 swag, nor any sideline choreography. He’s only good at injury flops, which actually worked.
