Please notice the ENTIRE of the middle of the field was virtually open almost every play. Why, because Manny had JJ playing in another county. Credit our defense but we played the game with 10 players on defense most of the game. WATCH EVERY PLAY and focus on JJ. It becomes painfully OBVIOUS he was brutally late on making tackles and most he couldn't get to because he was way out of position. I'm not a professional football analyst but in 31 years as a season ticket holder and a coach for 10 I've never seen anything like yesterday. There was a reason why Syracuse got something like 250 yards rushing. A free safety shouldn't be playing over 20 yards back on each play and back pedaling right before the snap. Coordinators and head coaches of opposing teams in the upcoming weeks will certainly expose this weakness. I'm sure it has to do with JJ not being quick and fast but truthfully, the kid was like playing in another game. We need a serious upgrade at that position because JJ and Knowles are very weak links. I do like a lot of our corner play and defensive line.

They were doing the same thing against Tech had a safety lined up 15 yards off the ball and immediately take twp steps backwards when the ball was snapped.
 
He doesn't have the speed, size, or instincts. That's why he is 20-25 deep. Nothing we can do. Just gotta keep playing and hope to get good DB croots
 
You can shut them down playing ten yards off the line of scrimmage EASILY. He wasn't a factor in the game at all. The interception he got was a beautiful catch on his part. The reality is the QB was throwing the ball away and JJ was so far back he picked it off. The shutdown on their wideouts was mainly dues to our CB play. JJ was way too deep to be a factor. WATCH THE GAME AGAIN!
 
How did it work? Did they score more than they usually do? Quit being a fuss budget facquit and try to enjoy the win if you're a UM fan.
 
All I know is what the defense has had to face the last three weeks has been brutal.
Rivalry game with top talent, A unique option offense that hacks at your knees all game long, and an up tempo passing offense that will not allow you to skip a beat or else you will get burned.

They have done very well all things considered. And the adjustments made by the coaches have been pretty good overall.

You think maybe having him playing deep took away the deep throws they like?
I don't remember them hitting anything deep on us.

You think maybe having him playing deep took away the deep throws they like?

Nah. Manny just did that to annoy dyckster to the point of a nervous breakdown.

M3N up there with the worst posters. it has nothing to do with the kid's speed or ability. it's obviously where manny wants him to be. if he was free lancing and doing it on his own, he'd have been pulled. clearly what he's been coached do, for whatever reason manny wants.

Good post. I expect the coaches to adjust because ND and vatech will destroy us with their run game if we continue to do the same thing.

Ed Reed played that way at times with the Ravens. I believe it makes the qb fill like he has to be more precise with his passes, can't just throw it up and let his guys run under it as much.

VT isn't a great running team. And Manny adjusts his gameplans based on who we are playing every week. He tries to take away what he thinks they do best.
