You have to be old like me to remember that Schiano was the heir apparent for Miami, when Butch said he was going nowhere, which had been rumoured. As a result Schiano left, not seeing any future as a head coach at the U while in his prime. This is the one thing that always bothered me (and by the way the BOT and president at that time and alludes to the any current negativity of the BOT). That said, this would be the time for Butch and his agent to come foward and say, I'll come back with a 3 or 4 year contract and accept a lower $ number and buyout and bring back Schiano at a good high number as DC and assistant head coach and a true heir apparent.
So where would this put the U? Right back at where we left off when it all went downhill. Even if this doesn't bring the U back to the one time national prominence we had - it stabilizes the program, will make the ACC happy and if it doesn't quite work out to multple NC's I can see us almost consistently in the Top 25, competing for the ACC crown and in position for the next greatest coach, you know, the ones that want the big bucks. If very successful Schiano could be here for years and being in a positive mode making $ and bringing an on or nearby campus Stadium.
Or not.
**** I'll probably be dead by then but maybe I can get my ashes scattered on the 50 yard line.
