For the Strong, Mario, Butch, & Schiano Crowd ...

I'm pretty clear in wanting an offensive HC for Miami. Mullen, Herman, Fuente, and Holgorsen are the guys I like. Chip Kelly and Hue Jackson are the pro guys I like. I was even on the Lane train for a while. And preferring an offensive guy is why I would even entertain Chud.

So, with that out of the way ...

Can you guys share who would be the preferred OC options to go with Strong, Mario, Butch, or Schiano?

None of those guys have demonstrated the ability to hire the right OC ...

So, what makes y'all think they would make the right hire at Miami?

And who are some reasonable options for the gig?

Note: The TCU guys are not coming here as OC, though Charlie might get 1 to come to Texas, if that guy doesn't get hired to replace Herman at Houston.

Seriously ... Who are some quality OCs we could steal???

And, full disclosure: I don't think Dorsey is an ideal OC to pair with a defensive minded HC ...

Butch will bring in a top crew he's already studied and evaluated as he traveled around the nation.

The other guys - who knows?

I honestly have no idea, as i don't follow the oc crowd enough. But I'm not as afraid of Dorsey as you are. By all reports he's performed well as a qb coach and the prevailing thought is that he'll be an NFL oc sooner rather than later.

I am only for Butch. His track record for coaches is as good as his recruiting. It is hard enough to pick the HC.

I think Dorsey would do well.

But if I need to pick a guy that would do well right from the jump, I think Eddie Gran is the way to go.

I'm interested in Butch as the HC - not the other 3 in the least....

For Butch, Dorsey was mentioned in some role in the past. If he were a coach for Butch, it could only be as the OC. I think he'd be fine in that role. Having a couple less experienced coaches on staff with a very experienced HC is fine, in my opinion....

As for Butch's other OCs, I thought Coker was alright at Miami. He had also been an OC at Tulsa, Ok St and Oklahoma earlier in his career.

I don't know anything about the fellow who was his OC at UNC, but it needs to be kept in mind that there are many more coaches interested in Miami than UNC....

Beyond that, I don't know who the top OC minds are, but a defensive-minded HC, like Butch needs to make a quality hire as an OC.....and someone who will be aggressive....

What's with the constant Holgorsen love affair?

IMO, he's not any worse than Strong or Cristobal ... And both of them have been linked to the job.

If the other guys are out of reach, I'd take Holgorsen over Strong and Cristobal.

I think what Holgorsen did against Clemson is more impressive than what Strong did against Florida or Miami.

He'd obviously be behind Mullen and Herman, though.

Interesting choice.

Gran doesn't coach QBs, though. But I lik the way UC plays on offense.

I'm curious to see what NFL team hires Dorsey as OC. I suspect it will be an offensive HC.

I'm not at all enthused about Mario. However, if he does get the job I'll support him for just
2 years: one yr to get his system in, and year 2 to make it work.

Butch with Wilson/Leavitt and some quality position guys. I'm not confident of a Butch hire if he's accompanied by a host of neophyte coordinators and position guys.

If it's true, that the administration is willing to spring tall coin across the board, than i don't believe any of the names in the thread title will make the cut.

Mullen lmao stfu

Ideal scenario: Butch hires Kevin Wilson after he gets fired. If Wilson doesn't get fired, then make a major run at Kendall Briles. That would be a great chance to get out from under his dad's wing. Then Davis hires Don Brown away from BC to be his DC. UM wins the NC next year with that three-headed monster.

I actually mentioned Miami should look at Kendall briles as oc in a thread the other day. That offense in Miami would be scary man.

My answer is simple. I trust Butch Davis to find the best possible OC available. The guy is dying to correct the biggest mistake he made in his coaching career when he left unfinished business at Miami. He knows more than me and anyone else on this message board about offensive coordinators across the country. Evaluating game films, traveling all over the country talking to coaching staffs and studying schemes as part of job as ESPN analyst.

Based on the fact that he worked with one of he coaching legends in both college and the pros (JJ), was the defensive coordinator of 2 Super Bowl teams in Dallas, has an eye for talent especially for the DT position, knows how to develop this talent and also being one of the best recruiters in college football: I know he will make Miami a very strong defensive team. Finding the right OC? I think he can do that easily.

Chise. You're back!

You just had a perfectly lucid moment! My man!

Far be it from me to question Butch, but the biggest problem he's had offensively is a stubborn adherence to a conservative approach. I have no doubt that he's well-versed in today's game working for ESPN and watching as much college football as he does.

The only question when he's finally formally announced as HC is whether or not he'll insist on sticking with that ultra-conservative, ineffective offense he's shown a proclivity to.
