For the people who know ball regarding Louisville.

Not much than we did for most of the game.

You needed edge integrity, which we gave up too much and let the linebackers sit more. No need to bring pressure and forget about the DE's getting up the field, line integrity across the front.

Get up on the line in the secondary, bring the safeties up. Compress the field until they showed a deep threat.

Then we needed to wrap up.

The first drive was a masterpiece, credit to them. We really screwed up by not being ready for a fake fg attempt on that first drive.

Besides that, any short passing game is tough to stop if the QB is accurate. Defensive integrity is key and disrupting their receivers at the line is crucial. Moss missed quite a few throws that really helped us out or the outcome would've been worse.

They watched a ton of film that revealed our backers were the weak link. They took advantage in both the run and pass.

How should we have approached defensively to their quick passing game? I just feel like we are going to see that again. Press man was the only thing I could think of to maybe alter their routes early and give the dline a split second longer to get him but then you run the risk of them going over the top?
They allowed receivers to run routes freely…especially that drag route. Why didn’t the DBs interrupt their timing off the LOS?

Tackling when we are in position to get the guy on the ground would have helped a lot. We gave up chunks most of the time due to poor tackling.

Like Others have said, not give so much cushion all the time and showing it early pre snap, and lineman getting hands up in passing lanes.

UL still executed at a high rate, so hats off to them.
Tackling was terrible. If gonna go short pass route, then incumbent to get them on the ground & not allow yac.

Miss what? Critical feedback does not equal abandonment.
You're feedback is barely critical.

If you believe press man solves what the defensive problem, you're wrong.
Our pass defense was fine after the first two drives.

If we play press man, they could just huck it up for a 50/50 ball with Bell 40 yards downfield with 3 step pass pro.

My bigger concern was the 3rd and long, and we have the "speed" package out and was exploited every time.
Should have the inside3/4 guys worry about the run and let the edges go after the QB.

Furthermore, it was strange that Heatherman kept throwing second level blitzes often, when that takes someone out of coverage, and they would rarely get home due to the 3step pass pro.

Vs quick passing game, DL gets their hands up and you have to play sticky from 5-10 yards off the LOS. CB play outside shade, and inside DBS play inside shade, once a receiver get pass 5 yards OR at the 2 second mark FIND A MAN get to him and locate ball with eyes.

I'm not a football or a DC but here's what I would guess would work best.

Should have:
Press on the outside to ruin timing.
Bring 6 or 7 guys to the line every snap to cause confusion but only rush 4
Drop the other 3 into coverage in the middle of the field to take away all the quick passing lanes and delay the QB so the rush has time to get to him. Only blitz every four or 5 downs and only from close to the line
Single high and bring one safety up to help fill the passing lane

But ultimately, should have taken away brown and bell. Under no circumstances can you let their two best players dominate us like that.

I think it was tough early on, but we definitely adjusted.

The approach on defense was adjusted

More importantly what changes are we going to make on offense. The play calling and execution made them look like monster defense. If we cant make adjustments to the DUO run game and get outside the tackles more...and if Beck cant learn to check down when the deep routes are double and triple covered...we're going to have a hard time.

I never understood why we dont see more underneath and crossing routes, why the TE isnt implemented more.

I get making the offense easy, but we're making it easy on defenses also. Our offense should be scoring 30+ per game. We have weapons, thats not an excuse anymore
