For the "No MAC Coaches" Crowd ...

First of all, people need to understand how big of a joke Memphis football is. They are less than an afterthought. The Missisippi Delta region is dominated by Ole Miss, LSU and the rest of the SEC.

Memphis' record in the 3 years before Fuente took over was 5-31.

First year there, with crap talent, he went 4-8, and ended the season on a 3 game winning streak. So, in Year 1 he won more games than the previous 2 combined, with the predecessor's talent. And, I know this is weird as a Miami fan, but he also ended the year on a positive note.

As most coaches at reclamation projects do, he took a step back in year 2, and then in year 3 (you know, the year when new coaches make a statement about how good they are) he went 10-3 and took a share of the conference title. Yes, it is a bad conference, but he had bad talent and he WON. And then he won a bowl game. Double digit wins and a bowl win with inferior talent. Al Golden couldn't carry this dude's jock.

Last season, the critical year 3, he gave UCLA everything they could handle on the road. His losses were to UCLA and Ole Miss on the road (both in the Top 10 at the time), and at home by 4 points to Houston -- who won 9 games on the year.

In Year 4, with all of his own guys, he is 5-0

As for the "very skilled QB", Fuente found Lynch up in Deltona and convinced him to come to Memphis when no one but FAMU wanted him. He has developed him in to guy that NFL scouts are taking a long look at.

ALL OF THIS is they type of stuff you want to hear about a good coach, not to mention that his mentor is the guy coaching the #2 team in college football right now.

Pretty **** good candidate in my eyes, although probably not #1 on my list.

Look at how they played #10 /11 UCLA and Ole Miss last year. Not bad IMO.

Justin Fuente's career record as a coach is 22-20

That is WORSE than Al Golden at Temple

**** outta here with this Justin Fuente garbage.

The dude has multiple losses to Middle Tennessee.....Christ almighty people

The Latin Al Golden. SMH. **** outta here

A few things:

1. Al had a 27-34 record at Temple. Al's career record is 58-58. Fuente has a better record overall and versus Al's time at Temple.

2. Al never won the conference at Temple. Fuente won the conference in year 3.

3. Al never won 10 in a row. Fuente currently has won 12 in a row.

4. Al never won 10 games or a bowl game, Fuente did it in year 3.

Urban Meyer had a 22-2 record at Utah. Fuente's 22-20 record is closer to Golden's .50 record than Meyer

I live in west Tennessee and I've watched Fuente build this Memphis team. I've listened to him speak. I can tell you that he's nothing like Golden. Fuente is not a media darling in Memphis. He's kinda tough to read. He's usually all business and no BS. His players respect (borderline fear) him. He's very "short" when answering questions. I'm still undecided on whether he'd work out at Miami or not.......but I can tell you, he sure as **** isn't anything like Al Golden.

One thing I will give Fuente is that he doesn't make "dumb" decisions. That alone would make him an upgrade..

Al Golden 2.0

Not in favor of Fuente, JMO. I think he's the benefit of a weaker conference and a very skilled QB. Don't see a difference between him and Golden.

Yeah. Same exact guy.

LULZ at Memphis being the beneficiary of a weaker conference. AAC is probably better overall than the ACC. And Memphis was a historical doormat before he got there.

That's a perfect parallel because Utah was just as bad as Memphis when Meyer took over at Utah. Great thinking.

Al Golden, through 42 games, was 14-28. Fuente is 22-20.

Urban didn't win 10 games till his third season, like Fuente.

Urban didn't win a bowl game till his third season, like Fuente.

Urban didn't win a conference till his third season, like Fuente.

Side note: Urban was a MAC coach, your favorite.

He also claims that Lynch was some stud can't miss QB. He had hardly any offers besides Memphis and FAMU.

Fuente Brohm Herman Babers from Bowling Green all should be considered if butch isn't in the picture.

No Chudzinski or Mario

It's gonna be funny and tragic when Fuente is coaching at South Carolina or some other program and turns their program into a legit team.

People here can talk all the BS they want about what Fuente has done, but there's no smoke and mirrors involved in his accomplishments like there was with golden.

While we trot out Mario or Chud or some other half *** hire, some of you will regret the school not making the hire when they had the chance.

The two best rising stars in COllege football IMO is Herman and Fuente. Get them while you can.

Meyer took over a program that was about one year removed from beating USC (quarterbacked by Carson Palmer and coached by Pete Carroll) in a bowl game.

Think whatever you want, but you haven't made a good argument yet, except for stamping your feet on the ground and sticking your fingers in your ears like a small child.

It would be nice to fire our coach so we can at least get on line to hire one of these coaches.

How do you assess his ability to prepare for a top 15 SEC team today?
