For all the mopes that like to bash Mario:

20 years of winning **** all of nothing will do that to a fan base, especially one that enjoyed the mountain top for 20 years before that.

Last season was an unmitigated disaster on the field. Mario brought in a terrific class that looks to have many contributors early. I think most of the recruits for this cycle are in wait and see mode. That's why as bad as last season was it can be put to bed early with a good season (realistically 8 or 9 wins) this year.

I still think Mario can reach new heights here but this season has to be the launch pad for that. Another middling season and it starts to get real hard to convince the true difference maker recruits you have what it takes.
8 wins isnt a good season. its an average season at best. stop lowering expectations. good is 10 wins. average is 8-9. bad is under 6-8. trash is 5 and less. Manny went 6-7, 8-3 and was on the hot seat in season 3. keep the same expectations for a better coach in Mario w far more experience. better win 9 or more or youre gonna lose more supporters in year 3

Exactly! Somehow people think we should lower expectations when we spend more than twice the money.

I haven’t given up on Cristobal but to ignore the red flags is pretty ignorant. Talent me this and talent me that but even lowly Manny Diaz would’ve (and did) win more than 5 games with this bunch.

Cristobal is getting paid as an elite coach and had an open checkbook to hire anyone he wanted as coordinators. After months of searching, this was an unequivocal failure. Cristobal then took months to fire Gattis and even longer to hire his replacement which has seemingly hurt us in recruiting. He put together a great class last season but I think even the most optimistic Canes fans don’t think this year’s class will be in the top 10. ****, he’s being outrecruited by Oregon at this point.

I’m not screaming to fly the banner and I renewed my season tickets for the 20th straight year (at an increased price nevertheless). I don’t think it makes someone a “mope” if they demand a higher standard then 5-7 and want a top 10 recruiting class from an “ace recruiter” getting paid $80 million with an open checkbook for coordinators.
Manny was the one who let the culture go to ****! So, of course he won more games it was club med by the time he got fired!!

When I think of the positives and why there is reason for optimism? It’s when I see guys like Denzel Perryman, Duke, Njoku, and Braxton Berrios and more recently Jalen Phillips. There’s always been talent, it’s how the coaches harness that talent and how the players hold each other accountable. Are you still working and sacrificing when no one is watching?? The U used to mean something, and it must take on new meaning for these young dudes to blaze their own trail. I can promise you all, I’ll be here for it when it happens.

I can understand why you would say that. You also have to acknowledge that Mario is bringing in way better players than Manny. It’s only a matter of time until he starts winning and winning big here. That’s why some people are willing to be more patient. And the fact that he cleaned house and running a spread O which he has never done is even more telling that he’s willing to change to win.

Context. We play 5 of the top 6 teams in our conference along with Texas A&M. This teams can be very improved and still be 7-5, 8-4.

I think 8-4 with a bowl win would be a great year for a team with 42 new players in a new system.

Miami goes 8-4, wins a bowl game, secures a good class and all eyes will be on us next year especially with so many freshmen set to contribute early

I agree schedule is more diff than last year. I don’t have a. Ton of faith in a bowl game as too many kids sit out and rightfully so. Unless it’s a cfp it doesn’t matter. 8-4 would be an improvement would still be average and I expect more from a veteran 8 mill per coach. Just my expectations overall. I can live w it shut seasons from first time hcs not vets

I agree Mario is recruiting better. Right now they’re good on paper. We said the same when manny took over and brought in James Williams lt rooster Chaney etc. on paper they sound amazing bc we have their hs ranks. Let’s see if they get developed and perform on the field. That’s what we never did post butch. I agree he will eventually win. I don’t think he’ll win big in terms of a title which is fine. I don’t expect us to. Ever win one again short of a burrow type qb coming in and going nuts for a year . The rest I’ll wait and see. Atm will tell us what we need to know this year from miami

I rarely voice my own opinions on here, but I simply cannot stand how about half of this board continually bashes Mario. These mopey dopes were obviously expecting at least 9 or 10 wins last year, without taking into account the @&^% roster and state of the locker room he walked into.

It takes time to rebuild after years of devastation. To show how some of the all time greatest coaches did in their first 2-4 years at a major school, here's some records for a few.

Bear Bryant: TA&M-1-9, 7-2-1, 9-0-1.
ALA- 5-4, 7-2-2, 8-1-2.

Joe Paterno: PSU- 5-5-0, 8-2-1, 11-0-0.

Nick Saban: ALA- 7-6, 12-2.

Bobby Bowden: FSU- 5-6, 10-2.

Woody Hayes: OSU- 4-3-2, 6-3, 6-3, 10-0.

John McKay: USC- 4-6, 4-5-1, 11-0.

Does everyone see the progression? It takes time to install the culture and roster changes. Stop griping about the last 20 years. I've suffered right along with you. It was a combination of bad hiring and bad leadership.

And don't even @ me about NIL, because the paradigm shift happened right when Mario got here. Lots of people swore that it would be the difference maker for us, before the rest of CFB caught up.

So please, stop whining and moaning and be a Canes fan and support the team without spewing your agony for others to read.
Says the guy who thought we would win 10+ games last year. Include yourself in your own “dope” category then.

how many more people will use saban year 1 at Bama AFTER he had already won a title at LSU and actually his year 1 was a 1 game improvement for Alabama from the last year. mario isnt saban. he will never be saban. he may never be a single person on that list tbh and it isnt a negative. hes a good coach hes not elite nor should he be considered in the elite. he was the best we could do, but hes not the best that was available to be poached (see USC).

This is sad. The same people have been making some version of this post since 2004ish. I never expected Wario to get 9 or 10 wins because I knew he’s a terrible coach. He has no shot of succeeding here and is about the worst fit possible. UM needs to hire an older, experienced, boring X and O coach.

And Brett was another one of the underrated Canadians that shines with us. Boys bleeds this ****.
Plus Romberg hasnt been a blind homer. He was very openly critical of how things were going in the past. For him to post something that positive about our near future means he's really seen and heard things that he likes.

The former players say this crap every year, especially when it involves one of their own. Meaningless wishcasting.

Brett has been very vocally critical in the past. Thus his positive words carry far more weight than a moper who doesnt have anywhere near the same connection to the program and wants to pretend none of the positive changes are real.

He was critical of Manny Diaz—not a former player—after the wheels fell off. It means absolutely nothing.
