Follow the leaders....

Perhaps I am looking into the statement a little too much, but accountability seems to be lost. You see it from the former players, but in it within the current players to hold themselves and others to a higher standard?

Simply working hard to show the younger players what you do sets a good example for sure, but when it is not met with accountability does it really matter? We hear about a QB not watching film, players out of shape and called out by former players, but this team collectively needs to have a burning desire to be the best as a group, not individual. It also needs to focus on the business of winning, and not the business of me. This is just another failure of the staff to not be able to build unity within the team. UM has always been family, but lack of leadership, and even coaching unity has caused internal issues that destroy the natural chemistry of the U. The Coker years and infighting has lead us to where we are now, and until we have a staff that can mentally manage the team, I find it hard to blame JT. If it was known he had issues prior to coming, they should have passed as he was/is a cancer, or learned to manager a 5* talent. I am not sure he is a cancer though, just a young person mentally trying to find his way. Perhaps a family environment as we always preach would have helped.

I do not blame the players for the season, I think it is coaching, however, I do think we could be a much better team if the players had the attitude of teams past (and no, not the past 15 years). Still, Richt needs to evaluate himself and decide if he really has the passion to lead a group of young men to battle on the field. No shame in walking away and being a mentor to youth through his religious beliefs if he finds this is no longer his passion.
This is one big contradiction. Our great teams and players were made of guys with internal drive that wanted to be the best. no one had to beg it out of them, "coach" it out of them, plead with them, etc etc etc. You say you don't blame the kids and it's all on the coaching, but look at our greatest teams and you will find that our coaches didn't need to have to pull "want to" out of kids. Want to be great, want to work hard, want to be the best. That was an internal drive that was player led. If you think that "coaching" is supposed to pull that out of kids then i will say your naive. HEART comes from within the individual and we may sit in a fertile ground for athleticism, but that same recruiting ground is baby **** soft hearted and very weak mentally.

Good points, but most great companies have great leadership with direction. The great teams of the past had passionate coaches and players to drive success, and demand it of others. The sense of competition was unreal, and sparked the best out of most everyone.

I agree with everything you said, but Offensive production and Scheme aside....are we really run that poorly as an organization? Be honest? Scheme and playcalling is much different than our organizational direction.

However coaches can only ask a player to do so much. At a point in time the player has to invest himself into what the organization is trying to accomplish. Its not a case of and/or, you need the coaches motivating, but you have to have players who are full of intrinsic motivation as well.

Poor as an organization? Organizational direction I guess you could say is heading inn a positive direction, with facilities... However, we seem to lack in the direction of the AD when it come to winning as well as the President and BOT. The commitment from the top down could be better, and could be designed to make football easier to build and win.... IMHO

I mentioned " It also needs to focus on the business of winning, and not the business of me." I think we do have an entitlement issue on the team, but leadership can help with that. The business of football has changes and players are on a larger pedestal than ever. This has created a monster that needs to be tamed and without strong leadership it cannot be accomplished. I do feel a strong coach and strong player leadership can and will build a better team, and we should and could have been better this season.

I think in some ways the players are motivated, but again it is the business of me, not team. You cannot win without buy in for all.

I think the AD thing and President thing is over blown. We had Tad Foote during our greatest run, he hated us and would've dropped football if he had his way. But we still dominated

However i think you're spot on with the business of "me" instead of the business of "we." I wish Travis Homer was and ND55 were Al Blades. Here's the really depressing part....who do you see on offense being an alpha leader that we need? I think Perry is trying to step up in that role and his play the last two weeks has been really encouraging, but who is the *** kicking baller that whips the rest in line. We have 5 of them on D, but none on O. Who next year is that guy?

Blake James is no Sam Jankovich, not even close. Allowing okay to be okay, gets you what we have today.

The other problem too that hurts the moral and effort is when you do bust your *** in practice and it is born out that you are the better guy and only to see the coach promote one of his butt kissers ahead of you makes it difficult to see the point in busting your ***! ie..Rosier ahead of Perry...Cager ahead of any WR on the team...you may OLn that can start ahead of whats out there now!! This is not happening on the defensive side of the ball because Manny has the right guys out there no matter their class!! The defense should be the model Richt go by to promote better effort from his guys!!

Not sure why some jackass would downvote this.

It's pretty clear the offense lacked leadership. The QB was trash and didn't garner respect, the senior OL guys were the worst of the group, and AR82 getting injured left loose cannon JT4 as the best WR.

Defense has plenty of leadership.

Starting w their coach
