from TOS - this is what is missing from the offense...

Senior safety Sheldrick Redwines says he has no doubt that the younger players will step up next year even with veteran leaders leaving after this season.
"Definitely,” he said. “They come out and work hard. They look up to us and we try to provide a great role model for them. We come out and work hard every day. We try not to slack because we know those guys are looking up to us. It's not about us, it's about the program. If we came out and slacked off and let them slack, the future will be slackers. We come out and work hard just so they see us to just keep the tradition going, really."


It's about attitude and players stepping up and owning a leadership role. The lack of a stable QB hurt more than just the offensive production this season - it created a huge void in leadership. If Perry is going to be the QB going forward it is up to him to step up and embrace this role, too. Same for one of the guys on the Oline. Tomorrow's game is the time to start -

I know I am going to be predictable with the response to Redwine, but this team is doing everything but keeping the tradition going. I don't necessarily blame them, as I think this is culture that they have been exposed to by the coaches, but this team is soft. We have no fight. We reflect the same, easy-going attitude of Richt. When you have 5* players at every position, you can get away with it. We don't have that kind of talent. Thus, we are getting what we see - a .500 team.

It's pretty clear the offense lacked leadership. The QB was trash and didn't garner respect, the senior OL guys were the worst of the group, and AR82 getting injured left loose cannon JT4 as the best WR.

Defense has plenty of leadership.
 
I agree and I admire the leadership and play of the defense this year. But with that said, Richt did himself no favors by not sticking with Perry from the FSU game on. He really upset a ton of fans a few players I'm sure with his Yo-yo of the QB position this year. However, I have been encouraged by what I have seen from Perry over the last two weeks and I hope he continues to grow to be the leader that this team needs on the offensive side of the ball. He got all the talent now it's up to him to keep his head on straight and continue to lead by example.
 
I think this offense will have a different (better) identity if guys like cam, Lo, wigs, Hightower, pope, Jordan and Mallory are all focal points of the offense to complement guys like reed and Campbell on the line. That’s a different team identity right there.

Great point. Plus I like Gaynor at Center next year. That guy plays with a mean streak. The key is a new OC but with weapons all over the field we should be able to score 30+ a game.

Yep. Gotta have a new OC and get rid of the current coaching biases/favoritism of playing guys that arguably shouldn’t be playing as much.

Not If he runs the same play on 3rd and short 85% of the time. Etc

All starts with Richt how can you expect the offense not to slack when we lack any gameplan from week to week. There is no scheming for certain opposition just the same stuff week in and week out. It has to get mind numbingly boring to run the same five plays all the time.

The other problem too that hurts the moral and effort is when you do bust your *** in practice and it is born out that you are the better guy and only to see the coach promote one of his butt kissers ahead of you makes it difficult to see the point in busting your ***! ie..Rosier ahead of Perry...Cager ahead of any WR on the team...you may OLn that can start ahead of whats out there now!! This is not happening on the defensive side of the ball because Manny has the right guys out there no matter their class!! The defense should be the model Richt go by to promote better effort from his guys!!

Actually Manny was inflicted by this as well at the beginning of the season. Constantly rolling out Knowles. However, he was not stubborn and adapted. Same thing with subbing in to many guys at the same time. Again he was flexible and adapted. Which illustrates your point even further.
 
It's funny how many people go after Cager. Yes he has had some horrible drops and he needs to use his size better but I also see a kid who continues to fight out there. For the record, he has 19 Rec for 344 yards and 6 TD's on the year. He also has more receptions and yards away from home then he does on the road. For comparison sake, Jeff Thomas has 35 Rec for 563 yards and 3 TD's. Cager actually has a higher average per catch. In this 30+ year old offense our head coach is running, I think Cager is the least of our concerns. Do I believe that hightower and Pope probably have more upside? yes. But Cager is doing better than most people want to give him credit for. That's all I'm saying.

Perhaps I am looking into the statement a little too much, but accountability seems to be lost. You see it from the former players, but in it within the current players to hold themselves and others to a higher standard?

Simply working hard to show the younger players what you do sets a good example for sure, but when it is not met with accountability does it really matter? We hear about a QB not watching film, players out of shape and called out by former players, but this team collectively needs to have a burning desire to be the best as a group, not individual. It also needs to focus on the business of winning, and not the business of me. This is just another failure of the staff to not be able to build unity within the team. UM has always been family, but lack of leadership, and even coaching unity has caused internal issues that destroy the natural chemistry of the U. The Coker years and infighting has lead us to where we are now, and until we have a staff that can mentally manage the team, I find it hard to blame JT. If it was known he had issues prior to coming, they should have passed as he was/is a cancer, or learned to manager a 5* talent. I am not sure he is a cancer though, just a young person mentally trying to find his way. Perhaps a family environment as we always preach would have helped.

I do not blame the players for the season, I think it is coaching, however, I do think we could be a much better team if the players had the attitude of teams past (and no, not the past 15 years). Still, Richt needs to evaluate himself and decide if he really has the passion to lead a group of young men to battle on the field. No shame in walking away and being a mentor to youth through his religious beliefs if he finds this is no longer his passion.

I have zero problem with Manny. He runs a scheme that fits the kind of kids we are able to recruit down here, and he plays the best players period. And the results on defense speak for themselves.

All we need to do is find someone like Manny to run the offense. Run a south florida friendly system, and play the best players.

And get the **** special teams fixed.

We’re not that far away from greatness. Richt just needs to let go of his stubbornness and do what needs to be done. People on here have all the answers....we need someone like Briles or Yost for the offense, replace Jon Richt, replace Searles, and restructure coaching of special teams.

Personally, i think the HC should coach specials himself. But that’s not the only way to do it.

Will be interesting to see if Rich chooses this hill to die on, or if he adapts and thrives, like Manny would. Is he here because he wants to call plays and set his son up witu a nice job, or is he here because he wants to win? We’ll see.

They need to develop a standard of excellence in execution. Offense completely lacks accountability. If you consistently drop passes, miss blocks, fumble the ball you shouldn’t be playing......

Sorry but the canesinsight insiders say 90% of the ppl you mentioned will be transferring
