For the record......I called the Coker hire a failure the day he was hired and the same with Shannon. It looks like history has proven me correct on both of those counts. It's obvious that Golden is a much better coach of the "total program" than either of those two combined and it's not even close. Coker and Shannon were quite possibly the two worst back to back hires of a major university in the past twenty years. They are that bad.

I'm confident that Golden will do a competent job here at UM.

I stand with the coaches, and I am sure many of us do. However I and many others are curious as to the X's and O's put forth by the coordinators in the games played thus far. I understand the youth, and therefore simplifying the playbook, but in some instances the playcalling has left you scratching your head on both sides of the ball. The guys seem like class acts, and are pretty **** good recruiters given the circumstances, but you can't blame some for questioning the coaches after being down 14 in the 1st quarter through 2 games. Probably folks afraid of what the rest of the season could look like if things don't improve.

Most of the jokers on here breaking down X's and O's like they really know whats going on don't have a clue either. Nearly impossible to break down film without a wide angle of the field or enzone film. That especially goes for defense. What was the call? Did they execute it properly? What were the called coverages and executed coverages?

It's a little better to get a feel as a fan for offensive breakdowns. It's far more difficult to pick out problems on defense.

I'm not saying Golden won't turn the program around, but the results on the field say 6-7 against 1A programs. He hasn't done anything to impress me. He says all the right things, but until we start seeing Ws, it's just talk.

I'm a fan of the team not any particular coach. With that said I like Golden. I don't know if I believe he'll eventually have us a winner, but I like the way he's going about things so far.

Plus I think it would take something extreme for him to be fired given that there was, shall we say, apparently less than full disclosure about what had been reported to the NCAA when he was fired. Golden's laying the foundation for a championship run. Our offense is going to turn into an Oregon Duck attack with West Coast principles. Our defense will be an NFL type 3-4 zone blitz that's gonna knock some heads off. If you cant see it, you're either a Shammin slurper or ***king blind. Shannon is a great Cane and for that he'll always have my respect. It's not his fault that Dee caved and let Shalala and few board members hire him when he was nowhere near qualified to lead this program. He had no understanding of what needed to be done to take us back to the mountain. He had the number one recruiting class in the country. When all is said and done, many of those kids will have NFL careers, and he still could not sniff success. For some reason he failed to command the respect of his fellow coaches and players. He lost the team, the University had no choice but to let him go. In addition, he was here for 100% of the time Shapiro was on the loose. Unfortunately Shannon was completely disconnected from his team in every regard.

Did you post anything about needing an upgrade in coaching during Shannon's 2-9 stretch against 1-A competition? Or, did you fail to notice how embarrassing that was?

And I don't care what scheme or lack thereof is being installed by Coach D. I don't care about the offensive play calling that had us going to the well far too many times on the outside.

I want to see some aggressive playing.

I'm supporting this team and coach, the same way I supported Shannon and his teams, and even Ol' Clappy and his teams. Demonizing Shannon is dumb, just as crowning Golden is dumb. We suck right now and its fair to be critical no matter who the coach is. Golden and crew get their shot to turn it around, and hopefully they can do it. Portraying it as some kind of you're either blindly loyal to fearless leader Golden or a Shannon supporting infidel is idiotic and counter productive. Go Canes.

After taking a breather, I've accepted that year 2 is still a rebuilding year under Golden's plan.
It has to be since there is no other way of explaining the stubbornness being shown by the Staff, especially on defense.
They are going to stick with the scheme no matter what in order to drill into the players mind where eventually it will be instinctual for them.
They are also going to rotate a bunch of the younger players in order to develop long term depth for next year and beyond.
I think other coaches would not be rotating as much and switching up schemes in order to play to the teams strength and would more than likely win more games earlier on in their tenure than Golden would however suffer the consequences in years 3-4.

That being said next year we better win the MNC if we're going to suffer through 52-13 beat downs this year.
It took Golden 4 years at Temple to get to 9 wins. It should take him 3 here to get 11+. And next years team will be loaded. No excuses.

I give AG four years and that could be more due to what type of sanctions we get. Just like I gave RS and staff…but man oh man Ohnofrio is scaring me. I didnt realize he suspends people for freestyling. I guess when he told Futch stop running around the block he meant it he wants us to run into guys instead of getting the guy with the ball.
