Folden: 3-4 is best against the Spread. Nick Saban Disagrees

Pushing the pocket with your NT is being disruptive. You're crazy if you don't think their front 3 has been productive the last several years. Bama front's always control the line of scrimmage.

The 3-4 is successful when you have a disruptive front 3. When you don't, your defense will look awful (like ours has for the last 4 years). Bama runs the 3-4 a lot and it works because their DL is taught great techniques, they are well coached and they have dominant D Lineman year in year out.

Not necessarily true! Bama has not produced Disruptive DTs. Great 3-4 DTs are Stop Plugs....not really their job to be disruptive.

Bama's D line was average at best last year. They produced no pass rush and had no dominant presence.

They did, however, gain a ton of experience and should be monsters this year.

For the record, there's nothing wrong w/ the 3-4 (although, I still prefer the 4-3). A hybrid 3-4 can be disguised in many forms. The 3-4 is not the problem....Al Grohlden and his fat buddy 'Onofrio are. Their skeem is probably one of the worst taught in the game of football on any level, and he's giving the 3-4 a bad name.

You can still have a base 3-4 but employe a 4-2 scheme against a spread team.

Regardless, watch a team like Stanford defend the Oregon spread. They mix 3-4 with 4-2 all the time.

yeah but Stanford knows how to run it properly. Do you trust Golden/Dorito to do that after what we have witnessed over 4 seasons?

this. They had almost 100 TFLs and over 40 sacks...

The best defenses against the read option are speed based penetrating sideline to sideline defenses. 3-4 or 4-3, you need to have team speed and great pass rush to knock the QB on his ***.

Stop with your cr@p. Have you not seen Texas A&M shredding that $h!t like cheese at subway? Match personnel, not freaking rocket science. DL has no chance if the QB gets rid of the ball in less than 3 seconds and guys are wide open running away from bigger players. Albortion

I guess u only watch 1 year of football then

Nick has struggled with the spread ask urban

Bama' defense is a shell of itself. Mississippi state runs spread too & barley scored. I think you have to run up-tempo against bama. Their CB's are suspect.

Once you think about, it makes sense to add another LB for coverage & speed over a DL.

Nope, I'm just pointing out that teams have run a 3-4 against the spread. We all agree that the way Al runs it does not work, to put it kindly.

didn't work out so well for them last season

cb's are suspect and makes no sense having a 250 lb hybrid lb covering a wr that can wrong circles around them

Look at how they played Oregon for the past 3 seasons and we're talking stanford. Last season was actually a tight game for more than a half considering Mariota was a machine last year.

Well we all know that Nick Saben doesn't know **** about winning or about football. So glad we got Al Golden
