I think I know a decent amount of football and I enjoy the X's and O's talk about the game in general but mostly about Miami. Does anyone know why Flagg went for the hit against an o-lineman instead of tackling the qb when he clearly had a choice? The announcer said something about a stunt and completing his assignment, but in that situation you have to adjust and tackle the ball carrier, and Flagg didn't do that. The same thing happened last year when #3 I think went out of his way to hit the blocker rather than tackle the ball carrier. What is in the water (or coaching or player instincts) in Miami that has players choosing not to make the tackle when they are in a great spot to do so?

What is happening in those scenarios? I don't understand. Can someone explain the X's and O's of what those players were doing (as opposed to "JAG" or "he just sucks")?

I almost punched a hole in my TV when I saw Flagg blitz in to hit the offensive lineman while the QB ran right past him.

There are serious issues with this team.

Either the current staff is teaching that, or it's Flagg freelancing and doing what Diaz taught (hall did the same thing last year and made it on sportscenter).

Watch the tape. Flagg did this alot last year too. "Engaged a blocker."

It defies logic.

All of our linebackers did this a lot the last 2 years where they would engage a blocker and totally take themselves out of the play. I would have to think this was due to Diaz's teachings and scheme. Yes, there are a ton of clips showing Bradely Jennings, Flagg, and other LB's just running into the lineman and being taken to opposite side of the play or to the sideline.

I haven't noticed it as much this year under Steele. I'm guessing he doesn't teach that crap unless it's some type of stunt (which this play appeared to be). But there was no need for him to engage the blocker since he had a clear path to the qb. There was no lineman for him to engage. It doesn't make sense.

Keep it stupid simple and play the best talent. Enough with these slow, less talented kids that play because they know the full playbook. They go to class to learn knowledge from books. The playbook should be simple enough that almost any kid can start day one.
