Five-star LSU commit Jaiden Bryant discusses flip possibility amid Miami push

Miami is after an elite edge rusher this cycle, with a major target being five-star Jaiden Bryant.

Despite being an LSU commit since January, the Hurricanes have not slowed down in his recruitment and continue to chip away at the elite defensive end. Miami hosted the South Carolina native for its “Spring Splash” and recently headlined its opening OV weekend. A 6-foot-4, 250-pound rusher with impressive power and knockback, here’s everything Bryant had to say following his visit.

On his overall visit:

“I had a great time with the coaches treating me like family. I appreciate it a lot.”

“The other recruits were on me saying ‘man if you don’t flip there’s something wrong with you.”

Relationship with coaching staff:

"Our relationship is definitely getting tighter with [Coach Taylor], so I'm glad that I gotta come on this OV this weekend."

"[Cristobal’s] a great guy, somebody you would want to be coached by."

On Miami’s pitch:

“Development, get you there, be great.”

“It's definitely heavy knowing they got two first rounders with the same coach, that’s definitely a key piece to my recruitment.”

On player host DeAnthony Lafayette:

“When I met him, he was committed to LSU, then he flipped. That's my dog, you know, just had a great time with him this weekend.”

“We talked about it, but our situation was two different things, his was more coaching staff leaving and mine they’re coming here.”

On his commitment to LSU:

“Still strong, but I haven’t signed any papers, so anything can happen.”

“It’s really just Miami and LSU in this race.”

Prior interview mentioned LSU 90%, other schools 10%

“I’d give Miami like 30 percent now.”

On the biggest factors in his recruitment:

“Really where I'm comfortable at, where my feet stand.”

On why Miami is the biggest threat in his recruitment:

“They show me love as if I am committed, as if I am a player on this team.”

“I love the scheme — vertical upfield, my type of playstyle, my type of defense. I definitely love it.”

Both Henderson and Bryant singled out Lafayette as playing a critical part in their visit. Particularly interesting is the fact that Bryant highlighted his flip from L$U.

10% to 30%...next update probably 60%

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say 1. Kid is being coached to say certain things to the media by his NIL agent, and 2. Miami is in no rush to flip him because it's not the right time for a bidding war. Let him take his visits, maybe play a few games as a senior, run some senior evals, then they can properly assess their reservation price.

We’re getting this guy. I don’t think it’s anytime soon which I’m cool with. The interest is mutual, combine that with another great season on the field especially on the DL.. I think we get the flip during the upcoming season.

I know all you Hurricane hopefuls are wishing for Jaiden Bryant to flip, but first get to know Sterling Lucas. Lucas is our (LSU) DE/Edge coach and he's Jaiden's dude, he's the reason Bryant committed to the Tigers. I'm going to go out on the limb and say Jaiden would never cross coach Lucas, when Lucas first was hired he was the DT coach, after conversations he switched to DE/Edge and that had something to do with Mr. Bryant. When it's all said and done Jaiden Bryant will be an LSU Tiger, but it's so cute that you think y'all have a chance.

Are y’all going to have a winning record this year? I’d be more concerned about your post-op QB brother.

Sterling Lucas doesn't have a yellow jacket and how many first rounders has he tutored? You look crazy as **** talking this mess. Also, the quality of life is immeasurably better in the Miami Metro area than the Baton Rouge Metro area for a young athlete. You look scared coming over here.
