While the Hurricanes are hard at work trying to land some of the top edge rushers for their 2027 class, they’re not ignoring the talent that sits behind them in the 2028 class. Five-star edge rusher Asher Ghioto traveled down from Jacksonville for Miami’s Legends Camp, where he headlined the event in both his rankings and talent. The Bolles product raved about the Hurricanes staff and placed them right at the top of his recruitment process. Here’s everything Ghioto had to say to me following his standout camp performance.

“I'm doing great, it's a blessing. I mean it was awesome to get out here work with JT [Jason Taylor], I got a lot out of it.”
“Being able to see all the legends out here, it was really awesome and then out here competing with all the different guys out here to prove something. “
“This camp is like Coach Cristobal said. It's not about being the top guy or all this fluff and whatnot, it's about just working like putting your head down. We got two hours of work and it was awesome, especially the one on one periods.”
On his relationship with coach Taylor:
“I was a sponge to everything. He had a lot of different coaching points that were unique and it works. You see the proof during the season.”
“There’s a good connection there.”
“He coaches to where he understands the players' needs. He goes outside of his comfort zone to explain it in a different way for each player.”
On being down in Miami this past weekend:
“It’s the best, such a gorgeous place to be. I mean we checked into our hotel and there was a parrot just right there.”
“I just want to keep coming back, the players — everything, they value me.”
On why Miami is at the top in his recruitment:
“Its just how persistent they are and how they make an effort every single day.They talk to me all the time, they want me down here to work.”
“A lot of it is seeing how they’re going to coach me, and I want to be coached by these guys. That’s why I love coming back here.”
“If I were to commit to Miami I’d love to continue the legacy of a guy like [Rueben] Bain. I’ve connected with him a bit, told him I’m coming for his (single season high school) sack record.”
“The proof is in the pudding.”
“Miami is in the top 3.”
On other schools pushing for him:
“Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M, UCLA have shown the most interest in me. And when I say that I mean that they’ve been pushing so that list can obviously change.”
“I’m still keeping my options open because when I commit, I will not decommit, I will not flip.”
On the type of player he is:
“The type of player I am is a very physical, dominant player who’s going to make plays all over the field. Whether it's power rushing or a spin move, I’m going to get to the quarterback.”
“I just want to keep building because it's not just the physical attributes too, it’s the mental side too which is a big thing for me.”
