Well we are getting closer to the start of the season. I'm having a hard time getting excited. My dad passed away this last May after suffering a stroke the previous November. For the first time in 22 years I'll be starting the season off without texting/calling/ talking to my dad about the season or how the Canes look. It's gonna be rough. He used to frequent the board quite often and grassy back in the day and loved to read the threads and articles posted.

He became a fan in 1980 and watched every game from 1980 until last years title game. Initially becoming a fan simply because as a 13-year-old, he loved the unis. But became a mega fan after Miami beat Oklahoma 3 straight years in the 80s. His dad was from Norman and a big OU fan, no love lost there. And followed them religiously, even subscribing to the local newspapers around the Miami.

Last year was bittersweet, I remember watching the Peach bowl in 2005 with my dad and him being so mad, it was 34-3 at one point, I remember thinking, wow this really means a lot to dad. I immediately made up my mind that I was gonna root for the canes just as hard as he did. We watched every game from then on. When we made the playoffs last year. My dad told me, this team was special. I had never heard him say that in the 22 years I had been watching with him. He was right, they barreled there way through the playoffs. And when the final seconds ticked off the clock, I turned and looked at him. And he said, he was glad he git to experience something like that with me. Shortly after, he slowly became non verbal, and was subsequently put in hospice.

I'm sorry if this sounds odd, but thank you all who are involved in this site, what you did for my dad he enjoyed it with everything.

Rest Easy Pops, and Go Canes!

Sorry for your loss. I found this is easier said than done after my dad passed away; focus on the memories and moments you had with dad rather than what you don't have now. Life is short, enjoy the party.

Great post Doc,

Canes fam is behind you! I’m a 1st generation immigrant and fell in love with the Canes and football in 2002 at 8 years old because of the Uniforms!! Takes a lot to be vulnerable and share what you did. From one cane to another let’s do it for Papa Doc this year!!!

I’m sorry for your loss. It sounds like you both created amazing memories together. My dad is also the reason I am a Cane, and I am so thankful to be one. Hope you’re doing ok.
